OMG! They actually believe it
The RW'ers actually believe that Republicans never used the filibuster during Clinton's term when in reality the very same groups, such as Focus on the Family, which are attacking the filibuster today commended Republicans who used it then.

2. Of course they do -
you don't actually expect them to THINK do you, or even admit they are wrong when presented with evidence? They should be required to have the word "vacant" tatooed on their foreheads.

3. They didn't HAVE to filibuster
They didn't let the Clinton nominations even out of COMMITTEE! So when they say that, counter by asking them how many Clinton nominees got the "up or down vote" that they're demanding

The nominees never got out of committee. That's not a filibuster.

Edit: Just noticed that the poster of comment #3 said the same thing.

8. Excuse me, but they did filibuster...
The Senate yesterday overrode objections from conservative Republicans and confirmed Derek Shearer as ambassador to Finland, but it failed by six votes to break a GOP-led filibuster against the ambassadorial nomination of onetime anti-Vietnam War activist Sam Brown.

Another bid will be made today to break the filibuster against Brown, who was nominated to ambassadorial rank as head of the U.S. delegation to the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE), an organization that promotes security and human rights.

Or this:

Taking aim at a longtime opponent, Senator Jesse Helms today tried to block the nomination of Walter E. Dellinger 3d to a senior Justice Department position.

Mr. Helms tied up the Senate for much of the day in a filibuster that he began Wednesday evening over the nomination of Mr. Dellinger to become Assistant Attorney General for the office of legal counsel. A vote to break the filibuster narrowly failed, and Senate Democrats said they would try again next week for a final vote.

12. Clarification.
Edited on Fri Apr-29-05 10:18 AM by Cash
I was thinking about how they never used the filibuster to stop a floor vote on circuit judge noiminees. Both sides obviously use the filibuster. But the talk I've heard, which I might have falsely beleived the original poster was referencing, was that neither party has ever used the filibuster to stop an up or down vote for circuit judges, which is true.

Vash the Stampede said, "They didn't HAVE to filibuster. They didn't let the Clinton nominations even out of COMMITTEE!," to which I concur.

"Democrats have used filibusters to block some of President Bush's most troubling judicial nominees, just as Republicans did when it was the minority party confronted with a nomination they didn't like, one of the most famous being Supreme Court Justice Abe Fortes move to head the high court."

21. I guess I wasn't clear. . .
it is my understanding that the GOP never sucessfully filibustered a Clinton judicial nominee.

The GOP is carefully crafting its arguments against filibuster saying "it has never been used to block a judicial nominee."

This thread seemed to imply that the GOP had used the filibuster to block Clinton judicial nominees.

My point was merely that the GOP is TECHNICALLY correct...if they mean Clinton judicial nominees.

It is a dishonest argument since we all know the GOP blocked 60 Clinton nominees through other means, including the blue slip rule that changed when W was elected.

16. The filiabuster is greatly needed
You know we may complain but hey it is just the world of politics! It is to give the minority some say so the majority cannot just roll over everyone.

If the majority ruled our country would still have slavery, women would be barefoot and in the kitchen all day.. etc....

The filabuster is needed so either side cannot nominate extreme judges. It is all part of politics.

Dear heavens--we are a country that has those who voted for this imbecile and gave him a second term, voted for this incomepetant little rich boy, frat boy, wannabe a cow boy, who cannot string a coherant sentence together in spite of his earpiece connected to some shill who prompts him the answers, and whose wife is a wax Madame Tussad model permanently pasted with a joker smile, and whose daughters willfully break the law and show their ass and their designer thongs to anyone who happens to be looking, that are simply just plain dumb and ignorant.

He and they are a shameful bunch of immoral dolts and they are destroying our country with their greed.

20. There is no agenda for god.
The agenda they have made up for god, claimed to speak for god, tried to be "like" god is all fake and not worth the paper its written on.

These people are puppet show masters, nothing more. Abhored and forlorned fascist sympathizers. They do not and have never spoken for god.

It's also obvious the agenda proposed here, is clearly not for god. The events in our world of proof of that.
