I've been looking over this website for prisoners and their families - it's stunning. Did you know that in some prisons inmates don't get basic toiletries like shampoo? They have to buy it from the commissary and if they don't have anyone to give them money it's too bad.

One post claims that inmates have to pay $2.00 to go to the infirmary. If they can't pay then they have a negative balance on their accounts. Others are claiming that they even have to buy blankets socks and underwear. At the rate their going they'll even have to buy their own food soon. Posters are talking about sons whose shoes got stolen and the jail won't let the family give the guy new shoes.

They rip these people off right and left - charging outrageous prices for collect calls - the only kind the inmates can make - for example.

Many of the posters totally admit that their incarcerated loved one did something crappy and deserved to be punished, like bank robbery or gang involvement. However, anyone who thinks that jail and/or prison is a walk in the park should spend some hair-raising time reading prisontalk.com.

And with a prison population of 2.2 million, 7 million on parole or probation, it is a forgotten minority group that keeps growing and growing.
