I was born 12 years after 1972 and I thought it rocked when I found a McCarthy campaign button at the LBJ library gift shop. :)

16. You're 11 years old?
1972 + 22 = 1994.

2005 - 1994 = 11.

I've seen your photo. If you're 11, you have a major hormone disorder. :)

19. Me too. Hail fellow Mcarthyite
I was always proud to cast my first presidential vote AGAINST Tricky Dick Nixon. Although he did finally end the Vietnam draft JUST before I would have had to report for duty, I always knew he was a crook.

7. I voted for McGovern
It was my first primary election. Worked for him, too, in NH. Proud to say we carried our state in the general election.

8. I did vote in the primary for George McGovern
I was very idealistic back then, sigh! Hubert Humphrey was not popular, people did not like LBJ, I think that LBJ tried, he stayed up to 4:00 am reading letters from soldiers and their families, but he was arrogant and Hubert Humphrey as his VP was not popular. Also,
Johnson was seen as a pick by JFK to carry the South and after the assassination, he was seen as an unelected prez and he openly admitted lying about the war while campaigning for his 2nd term.

9. McCarthy does alot better here than he did in '72
It finally came down to McGovern and Humphrey in '72--when McG won the California primary that clinched it for him despite Hubert's wins in Pennsylvania, Indiana and Ohio.

24. I'm surprised more people aren't voting for Muskie now.
He was sabotaged by a dirty tricks campaign. That was his only flaw.

25. I did vote for McCarthy in '72 and would again.
But, I didn't have to hold my nose when I voted for McGovern. Which is more than I can say about the tepid candidates the Democrats have run since. With the exception of Dukakis.
