Roger Hedgecock reporting DeLay will resign leadership post
From Free Republic. Forgive me!

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1392342/posts#comment?q=1

Roger Hedgecock is reporting on his show (being broadcast in an earlier time slot from Washington DC, just for today) that his sources tell him Tom DeLay will resign (Hedgecock didn't say from what, but I infer from his post as House Whip), and that the ride on Air Force One was for President Bush to tell him that it's time to step down. Hedgecock acknowledges that he's going out on a limb, since no other news/talk outlet is reporting this, but stands by his sources.

Yes, I know that DeLay is Majority Leader, even if the Freeper poster didn't.

1. No, that's the trick...
He's going to resign as "House Whip," and the press will accept it, so he won't have to step down as Majority Leader or resign.

<LOL>

NGU.

6. Wait, isn't there a new Whip?
Edited on Wed Apr-27-05 03:57 PM by LSparkle
I thought Maj. Leader and Whip are two different positions and he'd have to have resigned the latter before they made him Maj. Leader ... ??

On edit: OK, now I see the LOL part ... dummy me!

Trusting this isn't true, if it is, I am truly fed up with the Republican Party and will leave. I did not work so hard and pray so much to elect losers! If they can't stand up for what is right, they are history in my book.

You know what I SHOULD do, it take down all names of individuals on this thread whining and moaning about the GOP and A RUMOR!! and then when the RUMOR does not come to pass, FReepmail all of you and laugh at you all.

Since when does FR not wait for FACTS and instead reacts emotionally to RUMORS? My God I thought this forum and its members used logic and common sense but ever since the tragedy with Terri it just keeps getting worse and worse.

Come on people. Back to reality here. Look at track records. Look at public statements. Disregard rumors that cannot be backed up by anything except your own cynicism.

8. fits with my gut reaction to the air force one ride today.
:puke:

I thought it was Bush giving Delay the marching orders. The support is just face saving. Not real. Although I wonder what the two are cooking up now.

Remember, Clinton was payback for Nixon. I'm just thinking out loud here, but nothing surprises me anymore...

10. I had the same feeling yesterday. That Bush was giving him the boot.
Karl Rove has been behind this anyway -- the bad blood between Rove and DeLay goes back many years in Texas.

All of the stuff coming out about DeLay has been "out there" for a long time. These aren't new stories. I think Rove just gave the go ahead to make a clamor about it and get his ass out of there. Dennis Hastert's change of heart on the Ethics Committee rules wasn't based on anything but the word of Karl Rove from above.

I'd say it's 60-40 it all blows over and he goes on business as usual.

I also cannot see Delay backing away from a fight.

23. Reminds me a lot about the Lott flap
They were "behind Lott" on his Thurmond comments, but "stood with the president" when Lott was thrown to the lions.

I expect the same and it'll be fun to keep this thread bookmarked.

I think Delay will be resigning as House Majority Whip to focus on "clearing his good name."

16. THEORY: Today's reversal of ethics rules
DeLay comes out in the Friday News dump and explains away his "stepping aside" as "focusing his energy to clear his good name".

:eyes:

Any bets?

21. No way -- the fundies would go ballistic.
Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part (we need him there for our campaign ads next year), but the crazies are taking this personally. If word got out that Bush urged him to resign, they'd abandon him in droves.

22. Could be, since...
all the signs are there that DeLay jumped the shark and they're cutting their losses.

What worries me more than DeLay, who's helping to sink Shrub's numbers, is who is going to take over. Methinks someone who won't be such a lightning rod and actually make our job a lot more difficult.

Remember, as bad as DeLay is, he's been playing into our hands. They won't hold the House forever.
