State gives big to help DeLay
Kentuckians donate $113,800 to congressman's legal fund

WASHINGTON -- At a home in Lexington last summer, Charles Lovorn was among a group who got a chance to shake hands and exchange a few words with House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.

Lovorn, executive director of the Kentucky Association of Highway Contractors, paid $5,000 for the privilege, a donation on behalf of his industry to DeLay's legal defense fund.

That contribution and others at the fund-raiser helped push Kentucky companies and individuals to No. 2 in the nation for donations to DeLay's defense fund, which he is using to fight allegations of ethics violations.

The total take from the state so far is $113,800, with only DeLay's home state of Texas giving more, according to House records and an analysis by Congress Watch, a Washington-based watchdog group.

3. Donations have been WAY down since then...
don't give up hope. Maybe some people have come to their senses by now. Kentucky is a gorgeous State, but I wouldn't want to live there.

7. $113,800 would feed 569 families of five for one week... or
one family of five for roughly 11 years.

If placed into a foundation account, that amount would fund a $1,000 scholarship each year. (Without ever losing its initial value.)

It would also fund a child to attend public school for 30,346 days.

And so on...
