My, the Bushbots in my neck of the woods are getting cranky
As some of you may know, I live in a very Red, affluent community in Texas (the home of the esteemed turncoat congressman, Ralph Hall). As you can imagine, there are suvs galore with "W" and "Support the Troops" bumper stickers.

I have no paraphernalia on my vehicle, but I do make a point when I park next to one of these Bushbots to remark "what a great job Bush is doing." And when one acknowledged my remark, I would go on a kick about how horrible his administration has been. Usually, I would just get a blunt response and a "sore loser" or "jealous" remark back.

But now, it's different. Bush's approvals are in the toilet, and the hubris of these idiots is starting to wear off. When I make my remarks to a Bushbot now, they simply stammer that they didn't regret their vote and that the Boy King was "keeping them safe." That's about all they can reply - they can't deny the high price of gas, the huge deficits, the failures in Iraq, and so on.

They are a cranky, defensive bunch right now. And I have to admit that in an area where you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Bushbot, it's kinda fun.

On another note - the "keeping us safe" remark is all they have. What would happen if another attack occurred on our soil? I think even some of his most die-hard supporters would be upset with the Boy King.

7. Yep
Reap what you sow. It is nice some people are seeing through him though. Especially in Texas!!!

2. They're more likely to take it out on you than abandon him.
Don't wish for things to get too much worse. History warns about how destructive, irrational and dangerous true believers can be get when pushed to the wall.

As things got worse for Germany after the opening of the second front in 1944, the pace of deportations and gassings increased, despite the desperate military need for rolling stock to transport troops and war material. Nonetheless, the Reich's rail ministry dutifully allocated a growing number of freight cars for the movement of prisoners slated for the Final Solution in the concentration camps.

18. Interesting point, leveymg
So, you think America 2005 can be equated to Germany 1944? Are you thinking that b**h is as bad as Hitler?

21. Same dynamic. Different time, conditions, culture mean
a less severe outcome. One hopes.

4. Fearing the worst
On another note - the "keeping us safe" remark is all they have. What would happen if another attack occurred on our soil? I think even some of his most die-hard supporters would be upset with the Boy King.

My fear as that Rove et al would use another attack on the US as "proof" that the country needs Dubya more than ever. After all, he "kept us safe" for four years after 9/11, despite increasing worldwide terrorism (ignoring, of course, that his policies fomented it). Also, they would likely claim that terrorsts attacked the US in a show of desperation because Dubya's foreign policy is succeeding so thoroughly that they're up against the wall.

They would also play up patriotism again and call for rallies around the Prez, not to mention the need to return to "our core values," which would have the added effect of galvanizing the Republican pressure for judicial reform, etc...

Another attack within the country's borders would be awful; what the administration would do in its wake is far more horrible.

8. I wonder about that
I wonder if they'd risk that. Remember Cheney's whole thing that if you make the wrong choice in the election you'd get attacked again?? So wouldn't people blame them?

10. Hmm..
Good point. Perhaps they'd rely on the fleeting collective memory of the masses to gloss over that minor problem? Surely the MSM wouldn't call them on it; to do so would be unpatriotic!

12. Yes, wouldn't be surprised about the Rovian spin
I wonder how the Bushbots in my area would spin it.

My mechanic, a great guy, took me home from his garage where he was working on my van the day after the election. He noticed my Kerry stickers, and he very sincerely apologized for my candidate's loss. When I asked him why he voted for Bush, he stated he was "scared to death" of another attack on our soil and didn't want to change horses, so to speak. What I wanted to say, but couldn't, was that Bush was the head guy when the attacks occurred in the first place. But I respectfully kept my mouth shut.

I wonder what he would feel if another attack occurred. I believe he would be intelligent and thoughtful enough to rethink what he had told me.

I had to endure an annoying amount of "neener-neener" from coworkers who voted Republican. But I'm a big boy and can handle that.

What drove me nuts was the knowledge that they didn't even care about the election or its consequences. All they knew was that Dubya keeps us safe™ and that he gave them a tax refund, so he got their vote. Worse, when I tried to explain things to them, they just got a glassy-eyed "I don't want to care" look on their faces and went back to watching Fear Factor and Amazing Race.

Honest ignorance I can tolerate; willful ignorance is abhorrent to me.

I'm glad to hear that your mechanic was thoughtful enough to be aware of why he voted as he did, and it's a rare Republican who'll offer sympathy for the other candidate.

I hope that there are more out there like him.

(On Edit, changed an "I" to a "he." Oops.)

5. It would really be ironical if we had another attack and
the Fundies turned against him since the first attack turned them on.

Well.....you know what I mean.

6. Interesting story from Red State Bar
My husband was at a local watering hole in W Texas(W Country). Him and his Bush friends ended up at a table with an older gentleman named Travis. Travis surprised everyone and started talking politics. He told the forty-something group that this was not his America anymore. Even though he was a life long republican and 25 year military veteran he could no longer support the republicans. The defecit, the war and corporate greed were things he cited as turning him against Bush. He also brought up abortion and said the government has no business in the same room as a woman and her doctor. He said he was a religious man but he didn't want it shoved down his throat. He also warned them that now they are using the bible to attack gays, but what will they do when they go after beer drinking. My husband said this was the first time these idiots had to sit and listen to an articulate opinion against Bush from someone they respected. They were speechless.

17. first, how do you know how far you can swing a dead cat without
hitting a bushbot? Has Frist done studies there?

second, I hope that bushco realizes that the safety of his flock is all that he has left and therefore does not schedule another faked terrorist attack on us for fear of losing his sheeple.

19. I've argued with *bots on another board
and they think * is keeping them safe by continuing the war in Iraq. Forget about keeping the borders, ports, airports, etc safe! They could care less about that type of security-I know because I argued with them about it! Instead, they think the Iraq war is the ONLY way to insure security.

And you know what? I really don't think they care how many people die over in Iraq-just so long as they themselves can be "safe" here in America. What a crock. :eyes:

22. Who are they talking about when they say we're "safer"?
According to the State Department, 2003 was a record year for terrorist attacks. And they quadrupled in 2004. So, naturally, the State Department did the only honorable thing: Admit that the "war on terror" has been a complete flop.

Ha, ha, just kidding! In good Republican fashion, the State Department decided to quit issuing the report.

Or are the overrich folks in Texas thinking they're safer because all those terrorist attacks aren't happening to them?

23. They'd find some way to justify it.
If he asked for the livers and spleens of their first borns, they'd find some way to justify it and offer up their children.

As for them being cranky, they've always been cranky. They've just gotten crankier.
