Why I Think We're Idiots If We Don't Nominate Mark Warner
1) He's a governor. One term, can't run again due to term limits. He's been very successful, has basically turned Virginia's financial mees around singlehandedly and did it by coercing a Republican controlled legislature.

2) He's not Hillary.

3) He's a fresh face, extraordinarily bright, very charming and borderline SOUTHERN. His wife was a middle American army brat.

4) He's not Hillary.

5) Though he's a moderate on certain hot button issues (which will alienate some of us hard core lefties), he's got very progressive instincts and policies. Wrapped in a personality package that will appeal to the pro gun Nascar crowd.

6) Self made millionaire. Businessman. Understands both economic reality and the soul of the Democratic party.

7) Did I mention he's not Hillary?

3. I like Warner.
He's second on my list.

My dream ticket is Clark/Warner: takin' back the Heartland and kickin' neo-con ass.

:D

15. Absolutely Clark/Warner.
I think that Mark Warner is a shoo-in for at least the second spot on the ticket -no matter who the Pres. candidate is.
Insiders say that he is running for prez. He is quite charismatic in person- much more so than on TV.

I, like you, think Mark Warner has a glorious future.

I, unlike you, think Hillary Clinton is a good Democrat that is deserving of my support.

Did I mention that I don't trash my own party?

on edit: My God, He supports Hillary and Mark!!!!! ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!

5. Is Hillary still a Democrat?
Just wondering?

I mean AIPAC...

Abortion rights...

Hawk to the extreme...

I know she has a "D" after her name, but she's a centrist whom everyone in the South and the Heartland sees as a screaming liberal.

It's odd.

8. Of course Hillary is stil a Democrat....She always has been, and will be
Shockingly, not all Democrats turn out to be radical leftists. I'm from the south and I don't see Hill as a "screaming liberal"....I see her as a sensible centrist. Duhhhh...

And all the moderates I know think she's very radical.

Duhhh...

I don't hink she has a chance in hell of flipping any red states - that's my major concern. I was being "snarky" above.

(P.S. Hillary hasn't "always been a Democrat," either. In college, she was a Goldwater Girl. Just so you know.)

12. I agree, she won't flip a single red state...And I did know she was a
Goldwater Girl. Also agree that most southerners consider her to be satan incarnate. I certainly don't want her to run for president. All that said, I think she's a good, solid US senator, who votes correctly most of the time. I wish she represented me instead of Trent Lott and Thad Cochran. Its all a matter of perspective.

19. Oh, agree completely
I'm represented by (gag) Bill :scared: Frist and Lamar Alexander. :puke:

I want her to stay a senator, too. I think she's doing well by New York. I just don't think she can win a national election.

6. Likes big media
Mark Warner was instrumental in setting up corporate broadband in PA and eliminating competition for less expensive services for consumers.

I'd say no way.

7. While I'd probably vote for him.
I'd be supporting a more progressive candidate in the primaries and would be a luke-warm supporter for him as the nominee.

He'd be a similar option to Clinton in 92.

9. Does he show conviction and the ability to inspire people?
Those are the most important electability issues. We went by all the traditional calculations of what makes someone electable in '04 and it doesn't work.

10. I think he should take down George Allen in '06
he is, they say, the only one who can, and putting Allen along with Santorum (Casey kicking his ass), Chafee (very vulnerable, also crappy fundraising), and Burns (weak fundraising) would put us in a good position to take back the senate.

As far as 2008 goes, he can get in line along with everyone else.

18. Mark's expertise lies in being an executive- not a legislator
I would say that the odds against his running against <gag, gag> Allen are about 100 to 1

13. John Edwards was a self made millionaire, and from the South
Edited on Wed Apr-27-05 10:02 AM by SemiCharmedQuark
and extraordinarily bright and from a background of middle america, and a fresh face and NOT Hillary...

Lot of good it did him. Who we pick isn't as important as how we handle the attacks against RW attack dogs.

I loved John Edwards and it was my privilege to vote for him. But that didn't stop the RW spin.

They managed to make Bush, a spoiled fratboy who had everything handed to him on a golden platter, seem more like the average american than John edwards.

That is essential to winning a National Election. I like Clark and Warner. I agree, he would be a very attractive national candidate. He also looks honest as hell!
