3. Hate is:
a prideful persons misunderstanding about others.

Hate is so ignorant

Hate is a feeling that only those lost in a world of confusion can find comfort in

Hate is the destruction of Humankind and is only a byproduct of Pride

Hate is the only thing a republican has left to destroy himself and the rest of civilization.

Hate is the opposite of Love

Humble - Pride
Wisdom - Ignorance
Love - Hate
Mercy - Judgment
Compassion - Anger

Sounds like the repubs are on the wrong side of emotions. Looks like us Dems are on the side of the maker.

24. Sorry to disagree, but the word "hate" gets a bad rap.
Edited on Wed Apr-27-05 12:08 AM by stopbush
Main Entry: 1hate
Pronunciation: 'hAt
Function: noun
Usage: often attributive
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English hete; akin to Old High German haz hate, Greek kEdos care
1 a : intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury b : extreme dislike or antipathy : LOATHING <had a great hate of hard work>
2 : an object of hatred <a generation whose finest hate had been big business -- F. L. Paxson>
http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=hate&x=20&y=17

I think that most DUers would accept definition #1 as a pretty good description of their feelings towards *. I'll bet if you asked most DUers if they had an "intense hostility and aversion, a sense of injury and an extreme dislike or antipathy bordering on a loathing for *" that they'd answer in the affirmative. And that is the definition of hate.

That doesn't make them bad people, it just means they are comfortable applying the dictionary definition of the word to * without all the extra garbage that usually gets tagged along with the word (sort of like Rs equating Democrats with being anti-American). A perfect example is our newbie's (Michael JH - post #3) post above: none of his definitions of hate reside in the dictionary. It may well be that he actually does hate certain things but doesn't necessarily abhor them.

In the broader sense, making the word "hate" the equivalent of an epithet is just another attack on the language...and an uncreative attack at that.

Yeah. I can honestly and robustly say that I hate *. No apologies offered.

27. You know what I mean
I understand your point. We know the Christian right is hating everyone unlike themselves. I'm saying, we must loose our hate before it destroys us all. Hate is an emotion that brings no one any peace.

Don't break it down to sematics

5. My philosophy is:
People are great.

Humanity sucks.

It's how dysfunctionally we all interact that leads to the hatred.

So I like just about everyone I meet face-to-face. But I get frustrated as hell when people I never met, who hold opinions I don't agree with, try to write into law how I am supposed to live my life based on their supposed moral codes.

28. When propagandists get the masses to 'grow down' to adolescent
behavior where they feel 'disconnected' from their responsibility as adults to not hurt other people.. empathy and responsibility are the two things that have been attacked. Adolescents follow. They scapegoat. They target. They bait.

Actually, most adolescents don't even do that stuff.

It is all about adults and luring them into following a set of rules and mirroring and sociopath (or group of sociopaths) so that they behave as animals and tribal people.

Very sad to see it so much in the USA. You fight it by insisting on compassion and acting with empathy. Maybe 4% are reveling in the slop of hate. The rest are followers or have been spoon-fed some need.

We need to step back as Democrats and make sure we are not learning anything from the repukes. Then we reach out with empathy & as adults. And we fight the bad information (propaganda). And we speak the truth. And we hold them responsible for their actions. And we refuse to live in the black & white world they try to create.

We must talk about the shades of grey.

30. Holding a resentment
is like drinking poison in hopes someone else will die.

A Muslim holy man shared that thought with me, a couple or three decades ago. His belief was that it was OK to kill, but not OK to hate. His observation was that most people hated more people than they killed, and the hate poisoned their lives. He observed that you could kill a man, and still hate him ... in which case he continued to hold power over you even after he was dead.

I have come to agree with him on this topic, but his attitudes towards women were fucked. Which is major reason why I didn't convert.
