Art Buchwald wrote a good satirical piece on the religious right today:
Short and right to the point:

READ THE BIBLE

By Art Buchwald

<excerpt>
Jeepers creepers, the Republicans' dirty secret is out. The Democrats who are filibustering Congress are against people of faith. Leading the attack is Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, who speaks for all of God's Children in the GOP.

Zack the Zealot clued me in.

I asked, "Are you calling everyone who filibusters against judicial nominees an infidel?"

He replied, "What would you call them?"

I said, "Some of my best friends are Democrats, and I personally know several who go to church."

"That doesn't mean they have any faith. You can't believe in the Almighty if you don't believe in President Bush."

1. Um
You can't believe in the Almighty if you don't believe in President Bush

Call me crazy but isn't Christianity about Jesus? Since when was Bush savior of anything? Are they saying that Bush is God or a son of God?

2. It's satire

Art Buchwald doesn't seem to be around as much as he used to be, so some may not be familiar with him:

Art Buchwald
Pulitzer Prize winner
For widely known humorist and author Buchwald, no piece of Americana is too sacred, no politician too popular and nothing out of bounds for his barbed pen. Through biting satire, Buchwald helps readers see the absurdity in real-life situations.

...and I thought he was old then...He was at the Washington Post and I always loved reading his satire....Anyway, glad to hear he's still alive and paying attention to what is going on in DC....

Longtime no see on the DU! :hi:

How are you? Surviving the religious extremists and their onslaught across America?

Love your photo of Bandar Bush....Did you see how cozy him and the rest of the Saudi family seemed with *? Amazing huh? They don't even hide it....

3. The humorists lead the charge.
And they're gaining steam. Calvin Trillin's new book is another salvo at the criminals.

4. I miss Art Buchwald!

I asked, "Do your people believe that the Devil works for the other side?"

"More than that, we believe that all the Democrats will go to hell."

"And the GOP will go to heaven?"

"That's a given."

"So in the next election, the people will be asked to decide between the Devil and God as their commander in chief?"

"That is what the Founding Fathers had in mind."
