We've lost elections on our stance over gay rights
Edited on Tue Apr-26-05 07:21 PM by Horse with no Name
because it is such an important issue that as a party we support. Why all the homophobia lately? Sorry it's getting very old.
How can we pretend to be liberal when we bash other lifestyles and other cultural practices? The most important thing is that we support everyone's choice and not make their choices your punchlines.

Stepping down to field flames.

Edited for poor grammar

1. Frankly I am not sure that we have lost elections due to that
Edited on Tue Apr-26-05 07:26 PM by dsc
I think we lose elections on this, if we do, as much because we don't clearly state our position as because of what the position is. Metzenbalm won election and election in Ohio with liberal positions on gay rights (he was out of public life before same sex marriage became an issue but supported everything else). People knew where the man stood and respected that.

6. We have trolls and such
but we also have some serial bigots. There are also some folks who get on African Americans nerves too.

If it gets really bad I hit alert.

3. We need to stop trying to figure out how we lost elections
because we didn't. We didn't lose them. They were stolen. We must continue to fight for individual rights for all and FIX OUR ELECTION SYSTEM.

7. I'm not sure we've lost elections this way
but I'm appalled at all the nonsensical whining about Pres. Bush holding hands with the Saudi Prince. For once I was pleasantly surprised by the man. I would have thought he would have cringed at the touch of another mans hand.

8. What stance on gay rights?
People like Dennis Kucinich have been upfront in their support of full civil rights for GLBTs, which includes the right to get a state-issued marriage license. Others have waffled on the issue, while some have embraced the fundie belief that sexual orientation is a personal choice, like changing one's hair color.

10. Dems run from issues that we should be staking ourselves to.
Edited on Tue Apr-26-05 07:48 PM by K-W
This is the kind of issue that can give a party momentum for decades what politicians dont seem to get is that America will come around and follow the trends of the regions that have already largely come to terms with homosexuality, where tolerance is the norm. The number of ignorant bigots will shrink rapidly. The Democrats only extend the Republicans dominance by helping to insulate America from the issue rather than throwing it in thier face.

When America is forced to face its ugliness be it racism, the enviroment, war, or homophobia it has tended to change. But the longer they can avoid facing it, the longer republicans can play thier fears.

where we have to defend people's personal decisions that are nobody's business but their own, what about life, liberty, and the
pursuit of happiness, with liberty and justice for all. It never said with liberty and justice for those we like and please sign this
talking points memo on how to live your life, America is a free country for God's sake, not a religious retreat.
