Mainstream Media is trying to elbow in to the blogosphere.

1. Slate has blogs don't they?
And Salon has blogs. The Nation, and National Review as well. I"m not sure what's so new about the mainstream media starting blogs. I don't see anything threatening in it, either. Some of those writers do a good job, some do a crappy job.

3. Salon and The Nation are independantly owned
Independant <> Corporate

Corporate media is what we are fighting against. It is the corporations that are in bed with the Neocons and the DLC.

2. Good that the BBC has a blog. BBC is still cool. The more the
merrier.

4. If it wasn't the BBC
I'd probably agree with you.

BBC is mainstream media with a certain un-mainstreamish quality. In fact, they're very concerned with their impeccable reputation in that respect, and don't accept anything posted to the website outside editorial control. Because that can be a double-edged sword, you know - especially in these times when the ultra-conservative BBC suddenly is seen as a leftist fanzine by many people on the Right-Right.
But if they call it a blog, they shouldn't edit the content, but instead not call it a blog.
Where did you find that blog anyway?

I wanna check it out too :D

5. Which one?
When did it become not right for media to try a new way of presenting their views?

6. A blog is a blog.
No matter who runs it. How is it a "sham"? And of all blogs to point out, why choose BBC's? Why not an MSNBC blog, for example (like Joe Scarborough's)?

7. If BBC claims that theirs is a weblog

and invites comments, then it should allow all comments rather than edit the comments to reflect what "they" think is a balanced view of the readers. I would agree that they should remove vile or hateful content but not honest views expressed about any subject being discussed. I have posted two and both were not included!! And I did not use anything hateful - just my take on subjects.

BBC have been editing their "Have Your Say" section but that never claimed to be a blog. I have no complaints on that score.

Here is the link to their Election Blog:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/vote_2005/blog/default.stm

On the left you will see that it is claimed to be a weblog. Post anything and you will get a message saying that the post will be reviewed and then posted if BBC thinks it is appropriate!!

What MSNBC and other American media does is not of much concern as they are controlled by their paymasters. But that is not what I expect of the BBC which I been an ardent supporter of for 53 years!!
