RW Gov's wife calls for "punishing" unruly reporters
I sure am hearing a lot about punishing those that don't follow the radical extremists' policies. Rather authoritarian, isn't it?

Kendel Ehrlich joins husband in fight against newspapers
First lady speaks out in appearance on Shore
Associated Press
Originally published April 26, 2005
First lady Kendel Ehrlich, in a fiery speech to Republican supporters on the lower Eastern Shore, joined her husband's public fight against newspapers, saying they "lie" and "need to be punished."

As the guest speaker at the Lower Shore's Lincoln Day Dinner in Ocean City on Sunday, Kendel Ehrlich also lashed out at elected Democratic officials, saying their behavior during the legislative session was "rude" and "despicable," the Worcester County Times reported.

As broadcast news stations picked up on the comments yesterday, Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. moved quickly to support his wife and to clarify her remarks. Speaking alone to reporters, he said her complaint is specifically with The Sun and The Washington Post - papers that the Ehrlichs say are biased against them and don't provide fair coverage.

The governor said he and the first lady were the target of personal attacks after news broke this year that a longtime administration aide had spread rumors about Democratic rival Martin O'Malley on the Internet. E-mail released from aide Joseph F. Steffen Jr.'s private account included one from Kendel Ehrlich in which she said, "We need you."

1. What was it bush* said about things being easier in a dictatorship?
What I wanna know is where do these control freaks get the notion that only they get to make decisions? Who died and made them mommy and daddy?

Or are they really infants with a chronic case of 'terrible twos'?

4. It's the "Strict Father" model of morality the Repubs love.
Words that can be used to degrade them are ones that describe them as confused and lacking control, such as:

Coward, immoral, unprincipled, oversensitive, failure, fragile, faint-hearted, nervous, boneheaded, feeble, puny, fearful, vulnerable, inadequate, trivial, petty, juvenile, scared, worried, edgy, distressed, uncontrolled, bitter, gloomy, hysterical, delusional, repressed, browbeaten, demoralized, conquered, overwhelmed, pessimistic, hapless, indecisive, baffled, befuddled, dishonorable, shameful, disgraceful, easily upset, thin-skinned, hypersensitive, absurd, embarrassment, unimpressive, incompetent, incapable, lacking, undisciplined, unfortunate, awkward, babbling, inept, clumsy, flailing, humiliated, disgraced.

(I copied that from somewhere, in a piece about framing the argument.)

5. As a Maryland Citizen
this is embarassing, even if the Gove and 1st Lady are Republicans. This is shrill and silly and ridiculous. Attacking the Press for bad coverage, but they are attacking our hard working dem. legislature. Photo Op Erlich evidently had nothing of substance to contribute.

7. The Eastern Shore was a center of the slave-breeding industry
in the first half of the Ninetenth Century. I'm surprised that they "celebrate" Abraham Lincoln, in ANY manner in that region.

12. If someone offered me 50 cents for both gov. and wife...
...I'd take it in a heartbeat. I want nothing more than to escort the both of them back into obscurity.

Is there no middle ground for Maryland politicians? We've got some fabulous people, such as Van Hollen and Sarbanes, and then there's Ehrlich and bride. It's mind-numbing.
