Reid compromising with Frist?
I just heard about this on Malloy. Is there a way we can stop this from happening? They're going to compromise that if Frist stops the filibuster threats they'll let one or two of the judges go through. My question is: will Frist really stop the threats or will they flipflop? That's what I worry about. :\

1. Reid offers compromise: They get 2 judges; they swear no "nuclear option"
We win. Frist would never accept this in a million years. Its not serious. Reid is just trying to make the Rethugs look unyeilding/uncompromising.

No news here. Move along...

7. Which May Be EXACTLY What Reid Is Banking On!
Here's how it may go down:

-- Reid sends up the compromise (and 2 is worse than 0, but it ain't all of 'em -- and from one account I've read, REID may get to pick the two),

-- Reid forces Frist to make the announcment on the compromise together,

-- the Wingnuts go ape-shit,

-- Rove notices,

-- come June, Bush puts up Scalia as CJ and either and Owen or Pickering for the SC,

-- the Dems filibuster,

-- Frist breaks his promise and pushes the button ...

-- and suddenly the Dems are the reasonable grown-ups who did everything but couldn't get the monkeys from throwing the shit around on each other.

Voila! Instant '06-'08 formula.

16. Meanwhile, we have about 15-20 years
of a nutcase on the bench. While we're at it, why don't we give shrub a few more terms...that'll make people mad. And then the Dems can win in '12 and '16!

9. That's silly.

If that happens the Democrats are actually *fully justified* in Americans' eyes in shutting down government, whereas otherwise it's a dead split. And why would they take the compromise? Regardless of retaliation, after nuclear the Republicans could ram through bin Laden if they wanted to.

10. I hope your right but what if it is "some" judges?
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=703510&page=1

One of the options under discussion would be to permit some of the seven nominees — blocked by Democrats in the last Congress and then renominated by Bush — to be confirmed, said Assistant Senate Democratic leader Richard Durbin of Illinois. .....

"There is a way to avoid the nuclear shutdown, and I'm working with my colleagues to put that plan into place," he said. "The bottom line for the Democratic caucus is to protect constitutional checks and balances As part of any resolution, the nuclear option must be off the table."

_____

Nuke option off the table even if we have to give you what you want to do it?

Do hope you are right but it looks like another example of the dems not having a clue what we fighting against again. The move right and theocratic continues.

Moon is laughing his ass off.

2. Yep
This is horrible.

Reid doesn't need to compromise with Frist on this. Polls show the public against the nuclear option two to one.

I don't get why Reid is doing this craven thing.

3. One thing we know about these people is their lack of morals
First will lie and cheat to get whatever he wants, justifying the immoral means by the end of getting what he wants when he wants it.

We can NEVER bargain with any of these people, because they lack the capacity to bargain honestly. They have no morals, no ethics, and no honor.

5. Exactly
So I'm wondering: why is Reid doing that? Is he up to something we don't know or what? Has anybody here who has him for a Senator called and asked if anybody knows anything? This is discouraging. :( He was doing so well too.

15. Reid keeps putting on a show -- and he is fooling many democrats
They (Rove and company) are allowing Reid to act "tough" knowing that he will pull back and/or vote for their judges and nominees.

Every so often they allow Reid to win "one" -- but Reid is working for their team.

Look at his record -- he votes for bad guys -- with an occasional "show" vote.

Even people at DU are getting fooled -- when he puts on a show -- we'll get a flurry of thread -- "Oh Wow -- Reid is really impressing me .. ." blah blah blah blah.

Ignore what he is saying -- look at his vote. His voting score (voting for the bad/evil nominations) was a "D". He has no balls and he has no spine -- he is an illusionist -- he can make it appear that he has balls and a spine.

Actually Kerry should be minority Senate leader -- that would have been a logical choice.

14. What gain would frist get by cheating?
If he goes nuclear, he getsthe judges anyway, and avoids *looking* like a liar.

8. Reid is offering a sweetheart deal for the Dems
Edited on Mon Apr-25-05 10:55 PM by quinnox
If Frist agrees to it that would be great, Rowdy got it right in his reply.

If Frist does go all the way with the nuke option and wins the vote to pass it, guess what, they will get to pick Supreme Court nominees without them being filibustered, that would be a horrible thing.

I don't want to see 3 more Clarence Thomas's on the Supreme Court by the time Bush is done.

Reid's position is a strong one and also the correct one, any deal he makes will take Frist's nuke option off the table, he said it himself.

17. Why would they compromise with us
if they (claim that they) have enough votes for the nuclear option, and they could put in as many judges as they want.

And let's say they do "compromise." What makes you think they wouldn't go "nuclear" later on? Do you think they are true to their word...have you not been paying attention these past four years?

11. Remember when Bush promised to "exhaust all" methods
before starting a war? Remember how little he did?

The Democrats believed the liars on the IWR, I hope they aren't that stupid again.

No compromise with the devil!

I don't trust these bastards with a pet puppy, or in Frist's case a cat.
