Bolton's Last Gasp??

The last gasps of the Bolton nomination
by kos

It's not looking good for our favorite mustached villain.

:nopity: :nopity:

In contrast to optimistic statements from the White House, a top Republican senator said Sunday that John R. Bolton's prospects of winning Senate confirmation as ambassador to the United Nations were "too close to call."

The doubts expressed by the Republican, Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, who spoke on the CNN program "Late Edition," came as Democratic critics sharpened attacks aimed at portraying Mr. Bolton as someone who sought to politicize intelligence judgments. Four of 10 Republicans on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee have expressed concern about Mr. Bolton, on a panel where one Republican vote against him could keep the nomination from reaching the Senate floor.

Bush, Cheney and Co are furiously twisting arms, hoping to use party loyalty -- and not Bolton's qualifications -- as the basis for his confirmation.

7. This should be the nail in the coffin of his nomination:
Ex-Diplomat: Bolton Lacks Needed Qualities

This guy worked with Bolton in the first Bush administration!

11. They must be promising some really big things to
get those Yeas. Or there are alot of republican senators with broken arms. The key is for republicans to be embarassed to vote yes.

When will it be over? :(

12. The British don't like him either
"Newsweek said British officials "at the highest level" persuaded the White House to keep Bolton off the negotiating team that ultimately convinced Libya to give up its nuclear program. Bolton was unwilling to support a compromise under which the United States would drop its goal of regime change in favor of "policy change" in exchange for Libya's disarmament, the magazine reported."

16. No surprise.
Thank God we can rest assured that the world is actively recording history.

It will take our great-grandchildren decades to resolve our story in history.

And it will take our Great-great-great-Grandchildren microseconds or less to see it all very clearly.

That is provided we all survive these times as a race.

In which case my Great-great-great-great-great-great-grandkids are reading this as I pretty much type it.

Think on that.

14.  During any of the hearings
Have they asked what role he played in getting the bad intelligence to the WH as justification of the war in Iraq? It has been stated that he bullied those who gave reports on weapons that did not support his idea. It has been stated that he is a malignant bitch. It has been stated that weapons proliferation flourished under his watch. It has been stated that he is an abject failure on so many issues. But I do not recall it ever being stated that he had any role in bad intelligence on the war in Iraq. I wonder if he is the one that played a big part of it. Would he have any access to Valarie Plame since he was in charge of weapons watching? The Presidential Commission on bad intelligence looked only at the intelligence community and never looked at the WH or administration. I know why they did that, but did this essentially clear Bolton? So many questions, so little access to Senators.

15. Specter is too much of an actual conservative Republican...
Therefore he will be marginalized.

This is not as fortuitous as you may presume.

Besides, I just had a wonderful 'Pre-Deja-Vu' of the 1.5 years of political cartoons depicting Bolton as a pissed-off Walrus.
