Anyone else get a recorded call from the Far Right today?
I know of another person who got called and it didn't take too much comparing to figure out it was the same call. My recording introduced itself as coming from Focus on the Family. Hers said Family Research Council. Might as well be the same thing. At first I was tempted not to answer but then it occurred to me that I wasn't about to go unheard in my opposition. I was cut off rather abruptly when I indicated I had donated money to both religious causes and political campaigns. Guess they noticed that my previous answers pretty much guaranteed I hadn't donated money to them!

Boy did it feel good to say I opposed defining marriage as between one man and one woman, wasn't anti-choice and so on. Unfortunately though, the manner in which they asked the questions was definitely more along the lines of push polling than information gathering. Sorry, but YES, I do think the Democrats should keep opposing judicial nominees that have enough support to be confirmed.

It's crap like this that enables them to build a following among the weak minded.

End of tirade. Thanks!

1. I had a call like that a couple of months ago...
and the question was something like, "Do you agree that there is too much sex and vulgarity in the media?" My response was, "Well, I don't know what organization you're representing and I do think there is too much sex on prime-time TV, BUT...I also believe in freedom of speech." His tone stayed pleasant when he said, "Oh, I see. Well, thank you. Goodbye."

There was an unspoken understanding that he knew I knew what he was up to.

2. I've yet to receive any call like this... but, I live in Pasadena and am a
registered Dem, along with the other occupant, my husband. We also donated to the Kerry campign and to the DNC, especially after Dean became chairman. We probably aren't high on their target list!

3. The difference in the two groups...
...is not much. Focus On The Family is James Dobson's outfit in Colorado. Family Research Council is run by Dobson's height-challenged little buddy, Gary Bauer. Or as Bartcop likes to call him, "that Gary Bauer woman."

For all their bloviating about the Great Sky-Pixie, neither of these clowns is really a clergyman. Dobson is a psychologist and Bauer is strictly a political hack.

6. Too bad it was a recorded touch button poll.

8. I got the same thing when I called their Sunday 'Justice' program
... asking me to leave my info... name, phone number, etc... well I hung up, rather than painting a target on my forehead.

I wanted to say something to the effect that I was praying for a return of justice & liberty in this country, and a deliverance from their putrid evil.

7. Lucky you!
What I wouldn't give for the chance to give those nimrods a piece of my mind! Unfortunately, I live in the District of Columbia, where 90% of the voters are registered Dems, so these cranks know better than to ask a District resident what they think.

9. I get called frequently by the Boy Scouts
I always ask: "Does the Boy Scouts still disallow members based on their sexual orientation?". The inevitable answer is Yes, and I explain that until they start allowing membership to everyone, regardless of which gender they're attracted to, I won't be donating any money.

I'm an Eagle Scout, but I can't stand the organization now. My son won't become a member unless something changes drastically.

10. I answered questions for a "poll" by Focus on the Family today.
It was a recording, so I couldn't do more than answer yes or no. I almost hung up, but then decided they ought to hear my answers. As one of the posters said, this was "push" polling: the questions are so biased, the poll is worthless as a poll. Wonder if they'll even count my vote for gay marriage?

11. That's the one.
I'm going to guess that my answers and yours were discounted as useless anomalies.
