Yesterday, Sir Joh Bjelke Petersen died in Australia and if I still lived there, I would spit on his grave.
The man was the pinnacle of everything a politician should not be.
Joh was the master of the gerrymander, the master of corruption, the master of political cronyism, and a dreaded foe of all those who value civil liberty.
It was because of Joh that I attended my first street march, it was because of Joh that I saw my father humiliated in having to pay a bribe a senior police official just to agree to a meeting with him, it was because of Joh that I left Queensland when his sacking of the electricity workers (a la King Ronnie) blacked out our state for weeks.
Joh Bjelke Petersen ... you won't be missed.
