An interesting theory on NCLB
I'm listening to the Young Terks and one guy is saying how they planned on not funding NCLB and they got the democrats to go along because they had all the right moves to look like they really cared. They didn't want to fund it so they can make it all private. I think they're also going to probably try to do it like a faith-based program like I read earlier yesterday they were going to start doing that with special education. What do you think about that? I also think it's a way for them to look for more troopers because of the military rule with that. If you don't know about that google "No Child Left Behind and military."

1. I believe you are right
NCLB is a devious way to fund vouchers.

Shortly after NCLB went into effect, Rod Paige - *'s education secretary - came to my city on a promotional tour for NCLB. He visited a Catholic school and a charter school. Neither are required to follow NCLB guidelines. Paige held press conferences at both schools and praised them as examples of excellent urban schools. He did NOT visit any of the public schools and he stood up the public school supt whom he had asked to meet with.

The Catholic school Paige visited has since closed. The charter had some of the worst test scores in the state last year.

2. I think there's probably some merit in that....
Shrub has a history of passing legislation then not funding it, but the media never quite gets around to reporting about the "not funding it" part, and shrub comes out smelling like a rose.

That said, I think it backfired with NCLB. Even the Mormans are pissed--THE MORMONS. So maybe there's hope that people are seeing this bullshit for what it is.

businesses have tried to make for-profit schools (not fairing so well, but they are still trying) The Edison Group in Philadelphia is one.

4. Our local PBS station has a credit to NCLB
I'm curious to know just how much of their funding is from NCLB and if it was a requirement to use the credit for accepting the funds. Anybody know?

5. Ready to Teach and Ready to Learn both part of NCLB and PBS
gets funding for these aspects of NCLB

"Education is at the heart of Public Television’s mission. Two federal programs, Ready To Learn and Ready To Teach, both included in the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, use the reach of Public Television to prepare both early learners and teachers for educational success."

This is a summary of PBS funding requests
