1. don't know - but it's one more example of how we're in a constant state
of adrenalin surge. This admin will do ANYTHING to win/get their way. We have to be on guard constantly. Attention: take your vitamins and supplements folks, cuz your metabolism is in constant fight or flight mode.

2. I thought it was for judges
too but who knows what loophole he would find to do it. Why Bolton? Why is this appointment so important to him? He's such a swarmy guy, not qualified there has to be some reason he wants him in particular to accomplish something he wants.

6. I'm not sure either
Only thing I can think of is they have more wars planned and Bolton's job is to destroy the UN so they can't stop him from his wars. Remember: Bolton IS a member of PNAC.

11. because they can't admit they're wrong
they can't admit any vulnerability, can't admit any mistakes - for them it's all about infalibility and accumulation and maintenance of power. They lose -some- (however small) amount of power if they withdraw the nomination, they have to admit error that way. They don't have an "out' unless it's Bolton withdrawing himself like Kirkik (sp?) did.

It's about infalibility and power

3. We can only hope
Think how enraged the Dems can get and I believe the media would have some fun with this. Would show that other 50% what they are dealing with, pure arrogance and stupidity.

them and to the rest of the world.

7. There's some reason
Edited on Sat Apr-23-05 06:38 PM by FreedomAngel82
why Bolton is supposed to be there so Bush would do whatever he can to get him through. Remember how these people don't care about the rules or the Constiution and Bill of Rights. They've already broken a lot of rules and nobody, who can, has said anything. The republicans control everything so they know they can get away with it and anybody who is going to go against them will pay dearly.

18. Article From An Old Fashioned Republican
Israel guns for Iran

The neo-cons, who essentially control Vice-President Dick Cheney and his office, have already made great strides in persuading the president that the NPT is outmoded and must be modernised. His statements in support of the NPT say that he likes it so much he wishes it to be strengthened.

How? By removing from its provisions the "inalienable" right of signatory nations to enrich uranium to the 4% potency required for power plants, but not the 90% required for nuclear weapons. To accomplish this, the president has named John Bolton to be UN ambassador.

In his position at the State Department in the first Bush term, Bolton has been open in his disdain for the IAEA's al-Baradai and has done everything he can to have him removed.

He seems to be connected to the old guard.

9. I keep reading where people and the world will be upset if Bolton
is a recess appointment. I don't believe that. I don't think anything will change until we (Democrats/voters) get off our butts and do something.

It is time for civil disobedience and marching and anything else we can think of that is non violent.

12. " we NEED John Bolton in the UN, we MUST HAVE John Bolton
in the UN..."

WTF is up with Kate? Is there a bomb going off that only John Bolton's DNA can disarm?

Maybe they will hold their breaths if they don't get him.

Recess appointment yes, just shows the desperation.

13. Recess appointments can be for any position
Historicaly they have been used for emergencies (Congress used to take days to get quorums). Once Congress got back in session it could appoint the person. If Bush were to do this he would only be Ambassador until 2007.

17. No Recess For Democrats!
He can literally make a recess appointment while they are at lunch. Unless we keep someone on the floor making speeches 24/7. Then there is no recess in which he can make an appointment.
