Suburbanites want crackdown on spring peepers.
A true story, from Chester County, PA (West of Philly). Makes me embarrassed to live here. The peepers are just about the most beautiful sound on earth.

Frogs breaking noise ordinance?

It isn’t easy being a frog, particularly if all you want to do is start a family and settle down in the wetlands along Street Road in East Marlborough Township.
For the second year in a row, neighbors have complained to the township manager’s office that they are annoyed by or suspicious of the spring peepers’ mating calls, and they want something done about it.

Township Manager Jane Laslo confirmed last week that her office received a call from a resident complaining that he was kept awake by the noise. He inquired if the sound was a violation of a township noise ordinance.

Last year about this time, Laslo recalled, she got a call from another resident who heard the noise and said he was convinced there was criminal activity going on. When he was told that it was the sound of spring peepers calling for mates, the man told her the sound was too mechanical to be something from nature.

The call prompted an overnight police stake-out, she said.

2. We are utterly cut off from nature these days.
This story reminds me of a distant in-law of mine. He and his wife had just bought a vacation house in the Poconos. When someone told him that he needed to keep the garbage locked up tight because of the black bears he said "We're in a gated community"

This man is a lawyer.

we are doomed, not because we are evil, not because we are stupid, but because we utterly refuse to think until we have exhausted every other option.

why don't you stupid shits move into the middle of Manhattan or Los Angeles and listen to honking cars, screaming people, backfiring trucks, roaring trains, trucks, taxis, etc. ad nauseum.

Fill in those wetlands! How dare those little creatures disturb your petty little lives?

on edit: better add this: :sarcasm:

7. Spring Peepers? That's the best sound
in the world! I always mark the first night I hear them (2weeks late this year) because...YAY! It's finally spring. How incredibly ignorant can you BE?
We had a big argument in our town over animal issues. Someone had gotten some sheep and kept them on his land that ran behind other McMansions (aka "Barbie Dreamhouses") with the inital blessings of his neighbors. They loved the bucolic country visual-but quickly realized that there were, um, smells, associated with these sheep.
So, there were numerous complaints to the Board of Health that resulted in an open hearing on whether or not animals should be "regulated" and property abutters be given the power to veto or ok any requests for permission to have them.
I found myself laughing thru most of it -but it really was pathetic. One man stood up to inform us that he had "expectations" when he moved out here to the country and wanted to be able to enjoy cooking (lamb?) and entertaining on his backyard deck. Most were concerned with the value of their real estate. At one point, I suggested that maybe individual biodomes were in order for their properties. Needless to say, they were pretty much laughed out of the place-much to their anger. Don't mess with animal lovers!
I agree with the posters that note that we're soooo out of touch with nature. It seems that most people rarely even walk on grass-house to garage-paved road to work-parking lot to building-reverse to get home.
Geesh!:wtf:

9. Sad folks, those
If the frogs aren't there to eat the mosquitoes and gnats, they'll just poison themselves to avoid getting bit.

It makes no sense, but some people just don't seem to want to make any sense these days...

10. An overnight police stake-out. Because of frogs.
This country is officially bat-shit crazy.

Send little Georgie W. Bush after them with some firecrackers and the problem will be solved. :sarcasm:

13. Am beginning to think it might be a good idea to kill all the frogs, cats,
coyotes, wolves, owls and so on so the human race will get taken out by rodent born diseases faster. A few of the preditors will likely survive our insistance on our own destruction by destroying others. With us off the planet, everything can get back in balance.

People who hate nature here on planet earth might be happier on the moon. Not too much 'noise' there.
