OMG. The American Medical Association is part of the BFEE now.
http://patientsactionnetwork.org/index.aspx

I got a pop-up ad a few minutes ago asking me to send a letter to my Congressional reps in support of medical liability reform. It was GROSSLY deceptive. For example, it said that no one but trial lawyers would be hurt by Bush's proposal.

What is happening in this country is so vast in scope I can hardly believe it.

Obviously they're part of the Bush Family Evil Empire for that.

8. Did you look at the link?
They are pushing liability limitation as the only way to fix our health care crisis. That is SO wrong.

21. Yes I did. They're acting rationally in self-interest.
The AMA is an advocacy group composed of doctors. Does it not stand to reason that a lobby group composed of doctors would lobby for the interests of doctors?

22. I think it's in their short-term self interest.
A fascist theocracy wouldn't be good for us or for them.

24. They're neither for fascism nor for theocracy.
And they don't endorse either. :eyes:.

They just feel that not getting sued would be in the best interest of their members. Not their member's patients, but their members.

7. The AMA has always been for malpractice reform...
but that doesn't make them BFEE.

It does make them self-serving. As we all are.

It also makes them liars, but we're surrounded by liars, so what else is new.

10. They are actively working for Bush and promoting his agenda.
Just like Negroponte, Wolfowitz, Rice, etc. and they will partake in the spoils. As far as I am concerned, that makes them BFEE.

18. Seems they have only two issues...
malpractice reform and Medicare payments.

They agree with Shrub on malpractice, but disagree with him on Medicare.

Both of them use the basic argument that more money in doctor's pockets make for better health care.

They're right on malpractice premiums being too high, but wrong on the reason. And they are actually right on the Medicare reimbursement.

Curiously, they don't mention the problems with Medicaid reimbursement, which have always been worse. But, that's used by poor people, probably black, too, so who gives a shit.

Anyway, they don't want to be sued and they want more money. Isn't this pretty much what everyone would say about themselves?

Self-serving, but still not completely kissing Shrub's ass.

But, OK, they'll hang with him until they get all they can out of it.

9. The sky isn't falling, its been down for a while.
Don't panic; it has always been thus. Really, this is not evidence of things getting worse, the AMA has been staunchly conservative just about forever.

,...that now controls and rules over this country.

*sigh*

This country has become a fascist corporatocracy. Some day, the people will recognize what's happened,...some day.

Depends on the doc. Most pediatricians that I know are dems. But I guess you'd have to be a liberal to love kids.

Also, the AMA is a self serving group. They will back whoever if it puts legislation that will help them on the table.

17. RE
With pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies being two of the wealthiest companies in the world, I don't know how it could be any different. And they're both getting worse with each passing minute. If I see one more ad on TV about the joy of being on some damned medicine, while tripping the lights fantastic as I run through some field of flowers, I will be forced to do damage to my TV screen. Just kidding, of course, but you get the point.

19. This shouldn't be a big surprise...
Trial Lawyers are the bane of everyone's existence aren't they?? I mean that's what Bush would have you believe... he based most of his health care and tort reform crisis rhetoric on the evil trial lawyers.

Doctors like this bill because they don't want to be held accountable when they fuck up. They has become lax in their art, and have become increasingly less attentive to their patients. 9 times out of 10 they'll medicate the patient first, ask questions later. Bush would have you believe that this is because they are afraid of being sued... the reality is, the drug companies have made it easier for them to be complacent. You think we can't cure cancer?? We can... it's just more fiscally advantageous for the drug companies to treat the symptoms.

23. I doubt that
Cancer kills. Then you have a patient who is no longer consuming medical care and pharmacology. I doubt even the most business-oriented doctor would want to kill the golden goose for a single chemo regimen, a possible surgery and a tamoxifen prescription.
