Isn't that where Bush is going to visit today? Does he have some statistic that the Smokies have improved their environment. If so, it owuld be because of less big truck traffic in the valleys and less tourism because of the economy. Knowing Bush, he would try to take credit for anything positive?

2. I live an hours drive from the park's entrance.

The park itself is clean. The concern has been the pollutants coming from the factories in Tennessee and westward blowing into the mountains. Also, it doesn't help the situation that the park is also the most visited of all the national parks. And with Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge continuing to grow as a tourist spot as well as the casino in Cherokee bringing in busloads of people, I don't expect that to change.

3. I go hiking there every year.
And I never noticed any pollution, to the contrary.

But then again, I'm comparing it to NYC.

6. Oh, I know
That's what I was talking about. The amount of oxygen there literally gets me high -- but again, I live 5 miles from Times Square, so it's not like I have high standards.

4. It's been canceled due to bad weather.
Monkeys don't like rain. And yes, the Great Smokey Mountains are very polluted. In NC they might be worse off.

7. too true
from Maine to Georgia the Red Spruce and Fir on the ridges
are dying from acid rain, fog, and clouds. Also the biodiversity of the
deciduous trees is dropping.

Idiots. From Pittsburgh, PA to St Louis, MO 150 miles to 200 miles on either
side of the Ohio river is the greatest hardwood temperate forest conditions in
the world .... a renewable valuable resources .....

but it takes complex thinking to understand that a good Red Oak plank
can help people locally for many years if done right.

is it wrong to hate *?
