We make fun of these people but in a way its sad. I know our first instinct is to believe these are fundy fanatics or lunatics but many of them are just plain ordinary people. I don't know but many of them probably struggle everyday just to get by like so many other people in this country and at times just seemed to be overwhelmed by the day to day struggle. They probably find comfort in religion and it helps them get through the day. For those who believe in such apparitions it for them is a sign that their is a God and he is in such ways is showing themselves to them. If they don't hurt others and force their beliefs on others and it helps them make their way through the world. Then dammit that is fine by me. In such places I am probably first in line to make cracks. I mean its hard not too. Though I will bet good money that all of us making cracks would never say it to these peoples faces. I also don't see it as America being doomed. I can find much scarier and common things on a search of the net to back up that theory. Sorry about rant. Just had a few stray thoughts I had to say.

Normally when I've seen pictures of images that people claim to be Mary, I have to look long and hard to try to see her. (like the grilled cheese sandwich on Ebay) I have to admit this water image looks more like her depicted likeness than anything I've seen before. I bet this underpass is going to draw a bunch of people to it. If people get some type of religious experience out of it, I don't see any reason to judge them or laugh at them.

Maybe because I was raised Catholic and Mary does hold a special place in my heart. I associate her with all that is good and peaceful and loving in terms of religion- so it seems to me that the people that go to view these types of images and believe in her so much are more of a peaceful, loving kind of worshipper then the bile spewing Evangicals.

The fundies have turned me off to just about any reference to "God" that I hear people I don't know very well utter - I'm immediately suspicious of their motives. The fundies projection of a hateful, vengeful God and their absolute self-righteousness and preaching and prejudices have tainted my feelings about organized religion forever. I believe the commandment "Don't use my name in vain" wasn't about saying "Goddamm it". I believe it was about using his name to raise money, or to induce fear, get a political vote, or condone and incite prejudices.

Even so -

If I lived in Chicago I would probably go see this underpass because I'd be willing to bet there might be a lot of good energy there brought by some well meaning people.

28. For Real though, this is pretty grose. But i once had an image of Jesus

and it was made from the hair you pull out of the drain in the bath tub. I cleared the drain screen before taking a bath and ummm flung the wet hair onto the top rim of the tub in one of the corners. I swear....It was a perfect Jesus. With detailed features. It was really funny. It was just a head shot but what a great beard he had. lol. We left it there forever. It was dried but it just stayed there. It was way before ebay so well....eventually my miracle Jesus head got flushed. There are so many ways to denounce the creation of that graffiti sludge that it isn't funny.

Now when a huge 3D representation of Mary Magdalene or whatever her surname is floating in the sky, omnipresently, with Jesus, playign Cat's Cradle for all to see, will I believe.

Seeing the image made from pee and other stains, conveniently coming through a crack in the wall, is no vision of any sort that I'd want to bown down to. (it could have been some punk kid's doing too, a little paint, a little select section of wall, a very little amount of quiet time... voila. Heck, if crop circles could be denounced, and those muthas are huge (think GPS), then this "vision" is only blinding peoples' brains.)
