Can the Democrats Become a Political Force?
With the organization and focus required to overcome the Republican juggernaut. If you think so, then what issue with build the cohesive force.

2. It's so sad that the question has to be put forth in the first place.

3. They can if we survive the
attempt to go nuclear on the judiciary. Otherwise, the dems won't have real political power.

4. The Working Class
We've lost the working class by getting involved in too many social issues they don't really care about the party being involved in. People still, first and formost, vote their wallets. Focus on economics and opening up more work opportunities that relate to the wants and needs of the working class and the people will return. If not, then we're in for a long ride.

9. It Doesn't Matter What We Focus On When We Can't Be Heard
Edited on Thu Apr-21-05 11:04 PM by AndyTiedye
Nobody can hear you when Karl Rove has pumped all the oxygen out of the room.

Nobody heard Kerry talking about jobs and the economy and outsourcing,
unless they were THERE at his speeches, or watched them on CSPAN.

We didn't focus on those social issues, the Rethuglicans did.
All we did was refuse to cave in.

I suppose you would have had us throw gays and pregnant women to the wolves,
try to pick up the bigot vote,
try to out-Fundie the Fundies?

13. Too many social issues?
please explain. I haven't heard anyone mention the working class for the past few years. The only one who comes to mind immediately is John Edwards on the campaign trail. I'm sure there were others but he sticks in my mind.

Its all about the middle class baby and to hell with the working class. That's probably why the unions have been getting a pounding.

5. Interesting question
Technically, yes, they can.

Now, whether or not they actually have the wherewithall inside themselves to do, is another question for another day.

10. Let's get candid...
Kerry's campaign sucked...Kerry sucked...he was not a fighter. A girl scout could have turned Bush's lights out.

14. Kerry folded in the stretch
and the Dem platform is just fine, thank you. The message needs to be louder and to be framed to show its benefit to the average citizen.

What, pray tell, needs to be rethought so direly?

Until that is fixed, the message is irrelevant.

15. Let me ask
Do you really think the Democrats are a political power in the country, at this time?

16. The message: Stand up for the poor, the sick, and the workers
Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 04:54 PM by Selatius
Economic populism is the answer, at least in my opinion. The party doesn't hit on this issue much anymore, especially since many Democrats in government TAKE CORPORATE CASH. Might want to also look into the idea of replacing outside money with taxpayer dollars instead.
