Ok, maybe I'm a complete moron, but I can't figure out how to insert my own images or photos in a post. All I know is cut and paste, and it ain't happen'

1. Can't do it directly

You need to upload your images to an image server such as photobucket.com and then link the image to your post.

2. What'cha do is...

Assuming you're using MS-Windows.

Find the image you want to post.

(Be careful... They are often copy written. Don't
post those.)

Move your mouse over the image and right click.
A selector will pop-up go down and select "Properties".

A dialog will pop-up. About a third of the way down
that dialog is the URL of that image.

Highlight the URL. Cut and paste it into the text entry
box on DU. Be sure to include the file name of the image.

(Note: Gif images do not work!)

Press "Cancel" on the image properties dialog.

Post your post.

4. I didn't think you could post an html off of anothers website-

per this DU rule-

Do not steal someone else's bandwidth by posting images that are hosted on another website. Democratic Underground is a high-traffic website, so posting images from other sites will cause their server load to increase dramatically, and might even cost the website owner money. If you wish to post an image from another website, you must contact the owner of the other website to get their consent.

6. Ah, yes...

Unless you're posting to some of the lesser used forums
like DU'ers for Freepers. That's probably a good idea.

3. There are two services I use

Photobucket.com and photodump.com. A Google of either will turn up the right address. Just register, upload, and link as usual.

Both sites charge a fee for using more than a very few images, so be prepared to take them down periodically unless you pay for the service.
