Clark Bashers: Read this article and get out your cry towels
http://msnbc.com/news/967616.asp?0cv=CB10

(MASSIVE SNIP)
A few weeks ago, the Draft Wesley Clark movement asked pollster John Zogby to test Clark’s appeal. Zogby used a “blind biography” method in which a thumbnail of Clark’s career — without his name attached — was read to poll respondents who were then asked whether they’d vote for the unnamed military man or for President Bush.

The general beat Bush in a trial heat, 49 percent to 40 percent.

2. Blind bio polls were criticized and their shortcomings
discussed. That's not 'debunking.' Having a little problem with language today? Here, lest there be some doubt:

debunk : to expose the sham or falseness

Blind bio polls have problems, but they aren't 'shams,' and no one credibly could prove they are. Zogby isn't in to 'shams;' he has a thriving business that depends on the perception of his credibility at stake.

3. This blind bio means that most folks would rather vote for
someone who has Clark's resume than Bush's resume.

It is my understanding that it doesn't take into account policy or personality or their names.

Bush* is going to be tough. He'll have $200 million to spend on ads and phone banks and paid staffers, etc. etc. That's twice what he had in 200 which was a world record even then.

6. One thing you're forgetting
They aren't comparing two blind resumes.... they were comparing a bling Clark resume vs. W. Of all the Dem candidates Clark did better than anyone else.

12. That isn't what the article says
it says only Clark's was tried. We have no idea if he faired better or worse than other Democrats.

4. Considering that most people don't even know who he is,
I'd say that's damn good. it appears that he is the no name Dem that Bush would lose against. Hee-Haww!! Time to roast the roaches in the White House.

8. actual bios

they always referred to bush as, for example, the other candidate is president bush.

OK...

A was a former four-star general and NATO supreme commander during the Clinton administration. He was first in his class at West Point, a Rhodes scholar, is a decorated Vietnam Veteran, and is a national security expert. He is a successful businessman leading the effort to reduce our dependence on oil. Is a moderate on domestic policy issues and is from the South.

B is a senator from a northeastern state who is widely regarded as a centrist and the moral voice of the party. He stood on the senate floor and was critical of Bill Clinton during the impeachment scandal. This candidate is willing to defy party leaders by recommending reforms like school vouchers. He would be the first Jewish nominee.

C is a decorated Vietnam War veteran who is generally considered a liberal. He is regarded as articulate on a wide range of issues. He supported the war in Iraq, but is now critical of how the Bush administration is handling theaftermath. He has been a state attorney general, a Lt. governor, and has been a United States senator from a northeastern state for 20 years.

D has run for president before and receives strong support from labor unions. He is a congressman from a Midwestern state and has been both majority and minority leader in the House of Representatives. He is the first candidate to propose an extensive health care reform package.

E is a physician and has served as Lt. governor and until recently, was governor of a small New England state. He is running as a liberal, campaigning as a populist. He steadfastly opposed the war in Iraq and he signed a bill into law allowing civil unions for gay couples. He attracts large crowds and has surprised pundits with his recent success in raising money.

F is a first term senator from a southern state. He is young and is a succesful trial lawyer. He is running a populist campaign, though he is regarded as a centrist in the party. He supported the war in Iraq and has raised a lot of money in the first two quarters.

G is a senator from a large and important southern state. He has served as a state senator, a governor, and has now been in the United States senate for 17 years. He is critical of the Bush administration on homeland security and is the only senator running who did not support the war in Iraq. Once a month he spends time doing different jobs like waiting tables, general laborer, etc. to better understand how regular people live.

EDIT:
spaced them out, sorry....

11. LOL
Looking at that, I have to admit I prefer Graham's bio to all of them. I particularly like the fact that he still does common work once a month. Clark actually finished third for me here, behind Graham and Kerry.

9. Another Guy from Arkansas
that had no father and proved himself with a international scholarship...

BTW other than the fact he fits the 'liberal' Haratio Alger schtick and makes them feel good about there being a bootstrap in America and one can always yank it...what's his appeal? domestic policies? something to go on without flaming?

Another military guy????

10. Say hello to President Douglass Wilder
In 92 his blind bio did very well. But he never caught on. I do realize there is one huge difference here (Wilder is black) but show me a poll with Clark winning like this then we'll talk.

13. the Dean bio is slanted (as I'm sure they all are)
E is a physician and has served as Lt. governor and until recently, was governor of a small New England state. He is running as a liberal, campaigning as a populist. He steadfastly opposed the war in Iraq and he signed a bill into law allowing civil unions for gay couples. He attracts large crowds and has surprised pundits with his recent success in raising money.

makes it sound like he was Lt Governor for longer than he was Governor. doesn't mention he was in the VT state legislature too.

says he's running as a liberal, which isn't tru.

says he signed the civil union law but doesn't mention that he balanced a state budget or provided near universal health care.

the people who commissioned the poll got to pick and choose what facts comprised each candidate's bio. obviously they made the best choices when it came to Clark. if Kerry had commissioned this poll Clark's bio might've said something like "served as supreme commander of NATO… until he was forced to resign his position"

14. Gee, I read the bios and didn't see anything near that slanted.
Can you point out to me where something that slanted is?

15. if you're referring to my example regarding a Kerry-commissioned poll…
I was exaggerating to make a point.

Do you think that if Dean's campaign were commissioning a blind bio poll they'd describe him the same way the Draft Clark movement described him?
