Are the people running MoveOn.org bi-polar?
MoveOn.org has just announced that they will be running ads attacking House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer for voting in favor of the bankruptcy bill.

http://rawstory.com/exclusives/byrne/moveon_attacks_hoyer_415.htm

Nothing odd about that, a liberal organization criticizing an elected official for not voting in a liberal manner.

Except that in early March, Senator Robert Byrd voted for this same bill.

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=1&vote=00044

What was MoveOn.org's response? They helped Senator Byrd raise more that $800,000 for his reelection campaign.

What are these people smoking?

12. How are they exerting influence?
Byrd votes for this bill and then they raise money for him. No wonder so many Democrats in House voted for this.

2. Are you comparing Hoyer and Byrd?
Even with his vote on that one issue Byrd is an asset to the country and the party. Hoyers is not.

3. Hoyers district was re-structured
And, according to friend who's held her nose and voted for him, he's been increasingly "conservative" to conform to the new demographics.

She also said that many are eager to take him on in a primary.

15. Yah right, Hoyer had a 100% ADA voting record in 2004
100% ADA voting record in 2004

http://www.adaction.org/ADATodayVR2004.pdf

Compare that to Tom DeLay who was at 0%

You are applying a purity test to Democrats in the house.

5. I agree that MoveON is in some kind of crisis
or having internal problems -- a power struggle, a something.

I used to love getting their action alerts because it's a brilliant way to herd us cats and mobilize.

But, since the last election, they've been in a bunker. I stopped their mail and now work with other folks.

Organizations, like individuals, go through stages of developments. Maybe (crossing fingers) this is their "terrible twos" or something.

Hey, Freddie! We agreed on something!

6. MoveOn reeks of the DLC
They REFUSED to throw themselves behind the stolen election, which had reems of research to support the fact that it was fraudulent.

That's when they lost me for good. But I was already almost lost because of the soft-shoe "don't piss anybody off" stance they took during the election. I don't know if George Soros' money tied their work to just those things that weren't really "offensive" to the republicans, or if they did it by themselves. But they did not take up the battle that we're really up against.

No battle, no money from me.

14. Yet Byrd is not associated with the DLC
Why would they be raising money for him? Especially when he voted for a bill that they so opposed to that they are running ads criticizing another Democrat for supporting?

7. I think it reflects the sorry state of the Democratic party

more than it does the internal struggles at Moveon.

A lot of sensible people are frustrated right now- look at DU- Harry Reid comes out with some bluster or another- and suddenly he's everybody's hero- despite the fact that other than flap his lips, he's done absolutely nothing- NOTHING to thwart the far agenda- and he himself crossed over to the Republican side to ensure passage of the bankruptcy bill.

Some leader he's proving to be. He can't rally his own troop to defeat the worst nominees that in years past, would have been considered an outrage by the majorities in both parties.

btw: I hope that the folks who run Moveon are bipolar. Bipolar individuals tend to be much more intelligent and creative than the general population, they possess a greater degree of empathy and- when they're "on," they have boundless energy and enthusiasm.

Seems to me that the Democrats could use a few people like that- and I'll tell you what- I hope that Moveon not only witholds support- but actively opposes many of the DINO's running in 2006.

I'll put some $$$ in their kitty to get rid of some of these folks- who do more overall damage to the party than Republicans do.

8. I un-subscribed to their e-mails. Steny Hoyer isn't exactly high on
my list of the problems in this country.

Way to focus on the important issues, Moveon. :eyes:

9. I don't care about that as much as...
I care that they are spending money attacking their own instead of the opposition. We don't have more money than them. attack them only.

11. I don't think MoveOn.org has figured out what it is yet...
I don't think they know what their future role is or how they are going implement their agenda. This wouldn't be a bad thing except that it also has a hugely overvalued opinion of itself and its importance. So it can't stay out of the limelight while it sorts its future out.

The best thing for MoveOn,org to do right now is sponsor meetings and conventions and figure out exactly what it stands for. If it's not a player in 2006, who cares? It was a player in 2004 and had very little impact. By 2008, it could actually know what it is doing.
