3,000 Chemical Suits & Atropine Injectors Prove NOTHING, Yet

Condi and Rummy have both brought this up this morning as "proof" that Saddam had WMDs.

Military forces have chemical suits and atropine (nerve gas antidote) injectors
to protect them against the use of chemical weapons by their enemies. WE have them for our forces but they keep trying to spin the Iraqis having suits & injectors as proof that they were planning to use chemical weapons against us. Liars, dissemblers, truth-denyers.

I wish someone would throw this bogus charge back in their faces and thoroughly discredit it once and for all. Wesley Clark would be a good one to do it.

1. I've heard this one before
The ship's freeper brought it up when they were first found, and I pointed out the same thing: we have the same chemical gear that the Iraqi's do (in fact, the Iraqi gear is US issue from the late 1980's, I guess we sold it to them), does that prove we intend to use chemical warfare?

2. That's pathetic -- that even a freeper in the Navy could believe that.

My dad taught what was then "ABC warfare" (Atomic, Biological, Chemical) with NAMTG. Don't they still teach something like that? Guess it would be NBC Warfare today, Nuclear instead of Atomic.

Edit: And the courses were entirely about defense. Of course they covered how the weapons worked but not how to use them since we weren't using them. We were still doing R & D back then but in the sense of keeping up with the competition (USSR at the time.)

4. You're right
I took those courses every year when I was active duty. They're strictly defense. I wouldn't know a NBC weapon if you shoved it up my ass. Let alone, how to use it.

5. Still taught.
Qualifications required every 5 years, with the first course taught in navy boot camp.

Yes, NBC is the term, sometimes DBCN (Defense against Biological, Chemical and Nuclear).

3. I seem to recall
that many of the Atropine injectors were found in a hospital. Go ask any hospital worker here if they have atropine injectors. You bet. NOT a story.

7. They had to defend themselves against an invading force
They needed a defense against the world's most dangerous military power. The country with the largest stockpiles of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons. The only country in the world that has, and has used them all.

If I were there I'd demand a chem suit as well.
