When you think it can't get any worse: Senate votes for 'usable' nukes
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 06:02 PM by Q
- A few so-called democrats crossed over the line and voted to fund the research and deployment of what the Bushies call 'usable' nukes.

- Am I alone in believing that the few Dems who always vote with GOPers are actually 'planted' there to make sure the Bushie agenda succeeds?

- This vote represents the renewal of the cold war and nuclear arms race. Welcome to New America.

Edit: Democrats voting in the affirmative: Bayh, Hollings, Miller, Nelson (FL), and Nelson (NE).

10. Kerry & Lieberman missing... Same as voting yes, the PNAC sellouts
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 05:51 PM by Billy_Pilgrim
In a 1999 Letter to the Editor of Foreign Affairs, Wolfowitz and Solarz hold Kerry and Lieberman up as prime examples of bipartisan PNAC policy supporters.

14. I don't understand the wording of H.R. 2754?
To prohibit the use of funds for Department of Energy activities relating to the Robust Nuclear Earth Penetrator, Advanced Weapons Concepts, modification of the readiness posture of the Nevada Test Site, and the Modern Pit Facility, and to make the amount of funds made available by the prohibition for debt reduction.

32. So...
Edited on Wed Sep-17-03 09:15 PM by gully
we had 47 Republicans vote in favor of the nukes versus 5 Democrats.

And, we had 40 Democrats voting against the measure, versus 1 Republican.

Where is our recognition for the 40 Democrats who voted against?

This demonstrates a clear difference between the parties. However, you can bet the rhetoric from some will be...'democrats' supported the nuke measure blah blah blah. We need to start breaking this stuff down folks so we get a real sense of what is happening.

This is why it's so important to make sure *Bush doesn't retake the WH in 04!

4. God, this is well beyond the old nuclear arms race
One of the deterrances to breaking out nukes has been the awesome devastation they unleash. Creation of a class of so-called battlefield nukes removes their use from the realm of the unthinkable. Who are the sick shameful Dems that voted for this?

- Kennedy tried to stop this insanity with an amendment...but failed because of the crossover Dems.

12. How about backing up your smear and innuendo?
"Am I alone in believing that the few Dems who always vote with GOPers are actually 'planted' there to make sure the Bushie agenda succeeds?"

Show us some proof of these charges, or admit that they're just BS.

15. Why would you ask me to prove that which is right in front of your face?
- At first I thought you were being sarcastic...but then I realized you were more or less 'serious'.

- Look at their voting records for hell sakes.

- But this is the worst of the betrayals. Voting for this is inexcusable because it will mean bringing back nuclear testing and provoking more countries into joining the nuclear club in 'self defense'.

25. Hey, you made the assertion, you gotta back it up
If you want me to believe there's some huge conspiracy in the Democratic party where they always tell enough Congressmen to vote for Bush*'s proposals to pass them, I'll need a lot more than just "I said so."

So where's your evidence?

23. "Bayh, Hollings, Miller, Nelson (FL), and Nelson (NE)"
These guys must be an easy sell. They should stay out of carnivals and time-sharing seminars.

"Thanks for your vote. We promise to use these only on very bad, bad, bad, bad people; and only as a very, last, last, final resort. We swear that targets will be restricted to only 'certain' countries (nudge, nudge). This crucial research and development is very challenging and will require spending large sums in your state, or a state of your choosing. This will give us a means to totally destroy chemical and biological agents, like that pesky anthrax that found it's way into your offices. We know you wouldn't want any more of that, and the sooner we get started, the sooner we can protect you."

24. it's nothing new
We have had a doctrine of striking non-nuclear states on a first strike basis for years, Clinton signed off on it also. It's worth remembering when some "anti-Americanism" breaks out somewhere since there are very valid reasons to think we are dangerous idiots.

26. Can you back up your claims?
- I think you're wrong when you state that the US has had a policy of 'striking non-nuclear states with first strikes for years. It was not a policy until the Bush* admin.

- But that's besides the point. Please don't try to muddle the issue by redirection. The Bush* administration is asking for a new generation of nuclear weapons...that will more than likely be used in a PNAC-driven agenda to dominate the ME.

- They don't call them 'usable' for nothing.
