We may have lost the bankruptcy votes
Until earlier today I was very pleased about the votes the repubs were going to lose because of this. Unfortunately I hadn't thought it all through.

There are two things that will make or break the deal

1. People have to KNOW that the bankruptcy bill screwed them. When they are put in debt slavery they must know WHY that is.

2. It did not occur to me how many dems voted for this.

For number 1 - who is going to tell the masses? This will quickly go down the memory hole. It doesn't even take effect for 180 days. By then we'll have gone through 5 new Scott Petersons and who knows what else.

Who will remind the masses when this thing kicks in? FOX news?

As for number 2 - WTF are we supposed to say about that? Every talking head will be screaming "The dems voted for it! The dems voted for it! I've got the roll call right here!"

In order to be an alternative to something you must actually BE an alternative. When Rove makes sure every news network is repeating 24/7 the dems voted for it there's even a slight possibility WE will take the heat for it.

Number two was a HUGE screw up. Frankly I don't know how it will be overcome.

1. Ok first off tell the people
second off don't excuses for the dems who voted for it, but for the most part they were not part of the progresisve caucus and they need to be voted out.

But it is UP TO US to tell the people, don't expect fox to do it

5. Exactly
Vote them out. No longer am I voting for any New Dem, DLCer just to keep a dem seat warm. These dems are the old repukes that any New Deal dem would have wanted voted out, the very people that we would have campaigned against.

2. you need to put two and two together
interest rates are going up...

A lot of zero interest credit cards are going to really get jacked up interest rates soon...dont know when exactly, but soon.

People with high debt-to-income ratios are already seeing some cases where their credit card companies jack up the interest rate because their "riskiness" has gone up even if they have been paying on time.

All this means more highly indebted folks with no way out.

we should vote out the dems that voted for this. And let's see what the economy looks like in 6 -12 months. Wait until people start trying to file for bankruptcy because of medical bills, death in the family, loss of job, etc. The ones that voted for this, dem and repug, will be very sorry that they did, no matter what the credit card companies paid them. (Some dems voted for this, but all the pugs, voted for this. That message will become clearer, don't worry.)

4. The Dems Can't Nationalize the Issue Next Year
because so many of them voted for the bill. Which is very short-sighted and unfortunate.

Individual candidates can still make a point of it, though. I don't think it will be good for the GOP in the long run.

6. My new representative (Schwartz in PA) joined the dark side
on this vote, as she has on many others already this session. She has heard from me (no response) so there will be no more support from my wallet. I also talk her down to everyone I know because she has been so bad after only three months in office.

I doubt we would be much worse off if she had lost.
