Kos and Wonkette should co-host a t v show.

Wonkette (left) and Kos (right)

Kos (Markos Moulitsas) and Wonkette (Ana Marie Cox) are popular bloggers.

Kos blogs at The Daily Kos and Wonkette at wonkette.com.

Both of them have recently demonstrated their abilities to talk politics before a video camera (in separate settings).

On Friday, Wonkette was a panelist at a National Press Club event about James ("Jeff Gannon") Guckert which including James Guckert himself.

Wonkette showed she can think on her feet.

She responded quickly and well to counter the absurd statements by James Guckert.

For example, Guckert said that the Bush Administration was right to pay Armstrong Williams $240,000 because that was the only way it could get a fair hearing on its educational program "No Child Left Behind."

Wonkette responded that paying someone is the opposite of getting a fair hearing.

You can watch highlights of the panel including Wonkette by clicking here (via the blog "Crooks & Liars.")

Kos was interviewed by Brian Lamb in Berkeley, California for the April 10 broadcast of C-Span's "Q and A."

You can watch Kos being interviewed or read the transcript here.

Kos and Wonkette each have skill at being succinct. That is a useful skill both for blogging and television.

Kos is passionate about the Democratic Party. That has served his blog, and would also standout on television.

Wonkette has a good sense of humor, which is also useful both for blogging and television.

My message to televison producers:

Give Kos and Wonkette a show together.

1. My advice to you - more ego worship is the problem. No show. Ideas.
Edited on Thu Apr-14-05 06:51 PM by FreepFryer
Wonkette and kos are valuable because they are like us, not because they make good tv stars.

Let's focus on the ideas, not the personalities. Let's grow 1000 more like them, not hold them out as somehow 'more worthy' of attention.

Their strength is their commonness.

3. There are already lots of liberal blogs, but
few liberal tv shows.

Kos and Wonkette are better on-camera than most people.

4. I don't care. Get non-bloggers on tv. Bloggers write, not shill and pander
Edited on Thu Apr-14-05 07:01 PM by FreepFryer
Al Franken is an ACTOR. He's a very intelligent and insightful pundit as well, but he's good because he's good.

Don't elevate Kos and Wonkette into a field that requires very different skills than blogging.

It doesn't matter how photogenic or smooth they seem on T.V.

We need more actual Cronkites, and more Jon Stewarts - not citizen bloggers, on T.V.

7. It's all but required to be a T.V. 'pol'. Unless you have immense draw.
Kos and Wonkette will not gather that draw.

They'll get an audience that's a mere fraction of AAR.

Bad idea. Don't elevate them, don't worship them.

Emulate them.

21. Instead of talking about them, we should talk about the ideas.
Otherwise, you're just part of the cult of personality.

Would their ideas be better served if they were in front of the camera?

No. They would suffer. For all the reasons I posted.

Why not get involved with the ideas, instead of saying you'd like to watch someone else?

Passive Consumerism = Part of the Problem

I wish that was possible. Even if it was an online type of show or something. Hasn't Kos also been on CSPAN? Pretty big for a blog guy. He's also been on AAR a few times.

15. They'd make great columnists, on-air commentators, etc., or sr. writers,
but not 'anchors'.

That requires a degree of slickness and (yes) evil that (hopefully) neither of them will ever adopt.

Being on T.V. is not what we see on the tube - it's a world of politics and influence that I hope they stay as far away from as they can, while maximizing it to spread OUR ideas.

Speaking of our ideas, anyone with any good story ideas for a show like that? Or good talking points? Recent diaries or posts you've done that you feel advance the discussion?

25. They could complement each other.
Also, Wonkette was on "The Al Franken Show' to discuss (former Bush press secretary) Ari Fleisher's book and did fine.

She also did fine at the panel with James ("Jeff Gannon") Guckert.

Edited on Thu Apr-14-05 08:43 PM by cat_girl25
Just kidding. I must say that I was impressed with Wonkette the other day when she appeared at the NPC. She was quick and doesn't hold back anything. I have only read what others wrote about her so I didn't really have an opinion of her before that. After the show, I visited her website for the first time and I more than likely will visit it again. As far as Kos, I don't know much about him. I know he is highly recommended here on DU. Besides, they are both liberals so I'd support whatever they do.
