How I as a semi-Luddite came to love Mozilla and Firefox.
It happened earlier this week, the computer crashed and I could not access DSL, let alone DU or any other site. My husband got on and switched us over completely to Firefox/Mozilla.

I was very angry at first, but now, after several days I have a new love in my life. It works really well, really fast and I don't get any more alerts about how my system is being attacked. Hmmmm.....

I have to give my husband credit for his patience with me and I have to thank all the DU'ers here that said in the beginning, switch now! I'm starting to be really impressed. Thank you all for your patience with those of us reluctant to make another change. This time it is all good.

May Bill Gates soon go down.

1. I too love Firefox.
Much better to deal with than IE or Netscape.

from what you know.

Something a very old man used to say to me every day:

"There is nothing more consistant and predictable than change than resistance to it".

8. Thank you and I'll put my tech hubbie on it as soon as he gets home
tonight. I'm a believer. I just need tutoring. I'm convinced already, and only after a day or two.

5. Try extensions
DictionarySearch (PM me for a nice Google hack for that) and AdBlock are my favorites. Give them a try but from my experience, it's best not to have a lot of them since they can mess up Firefox.

7. I don't understand all the hoopla
I tried the thing and hated it. It was way too complicated, and couldn't save pages in MHT format. The editing windows were also ugly, poorly spaced, and the cursor lapped over the previous character. The built-in spam and spyware attack features missed stuff, and crashed my Norton System Works.

Hating Microsoft is easy; building software tools that work better than Microsoft's is difficult. I'd love to switch over to a fully open-source box, but that would be a step backwards.

all about learning a new system. It works unbelelievably well when you just give it half a chance. Trust me, I fought it tooth and nail until I was forced. Now, I think I'm in love. I get to say Bill G. See YA!

It is a beautiful moment when you get to say bye to Bill G. and Microsoft! BYE!!!!

12. Have you started using the Tabs yet?
Tabbed browsing is the only way to browse.
Especially when referencing other articles and Webpages on DU.

I still keep IE, but only use it to update Windows.
I'm a FireFox fan.
Thunderbird is also my E-Mail app now!

For those who want to make the switch, go here:

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/start/

Mine installed wothout ANY hassels. Most report the same, and you can import your bookmarks from IE.

FireFox...Better...Stronger....Faster...FREE!

Importing our bookmarks though met with some flaws, we are getting over it. They all just got re-arranged, they are not in the same order, we'll get over it.

14. I can't see DU avatars with Firefox
But I still like Firefox so much. I used to be able top see the avatars. But now they're gone. Maybe it was from the recent Firefox upgrade and I can't figure out what setting to change.

I never changed any DU Preferences. The avatars just stopped showing one day after the last Firefox upgrade.

Edit: I just figured it out. In Firefox, Tools>Options>Web Features>Load Imnages>Exceptions, DU is listed as a place to disallow images. I'm not sure why since I didn't add knowlingly add DU to the list. All sorts of images did show up in DU. It was just the avatars not showing. So, I went ahead and changed the setting and the avatars are showing up now. I must have clicked some button one time that added DU to that list automatically.

20. Well... Check you're settings both in DU and in your browser.
There's something turned off there somewhere.

Most of the avatars are just images.

I hunted around in Firefox and found it. It must be something that happened by a click as I never knew about this feature until I poked around in Firefox settings just now.
