2. Power to the people!
Power to the people! Right on!

I worked harder for Dennis Kucinich than I ever had for any politician. His Department of Peace seems like an idea long overdue for serious consideration.

(KICK!)

6. I didn't actually do anything for Dennis...
I didn't find out about him until November -- I would have busted my butt though. But I am so grateful to the person who turned me on to him. They simply gave me a link to his web site and the Dept of Peace and I swear it, I WEPT ! That may seem cheesy but I have not been the same since. Until I saw that I had absolutely no Hope. I think that if you just offer people a sliver of TRUTH they will see --if they are ready.

10. I think he did that for a lot of us.
It was so good to be able to work for a candidate whose beliefs really seemed to come somewhere close to my own- to actually be able to vote for someone, rather than just against someone else, even if it was only in the primaries.

15. I love Dennis!
He is the one that should have won the primaries. As sad as it is to say I think he lost because he is too short, and unmarried. It's a shame people are so superficial.

16. From Dennis:
Dear Friend,

Today at 2:30 pm ET Marianne Williamson and I will discuss the Department of Peace on CNN's "Live From..." show with host Kyra Phillips. We are at a time when our country has been besieged by a militarization of thought which stems from deep fears about personal security. As a result we find ourselves still at war in Iraq and preparing for war against Iran and North Korea. We need a deep discussion about the roots of war-thinking as well as a compassionate reflection on the roots of violence in our own society. This show will be the beginning of a new discussion as we prepare to expand our efforts to create a cabinet-level Department of Peace.

The structure of peace in our own lives, in our society and in the world is a major theme of our new website at http://www.kucinich.us. In the past week, we have posted stories about meetings with peace groups in the UK, discussions with Belgian Senators, and reflections on the Pope and his quest for peace. I have met with several youth groups to gain their involvement and we are building our coalition within the Congress, preparing to re-introduce the Department of Peace legislation in September.

You are an important part of these efforts. Your support is essential to our success. We built great momentum during the presidential campaign because of your participation. Your involvement is no less important now. Please help us continue to reach out to build a more peaceful society and world by contributing now to our campaign. We need assistance today.

Please contribute online at http://www.kucinich.us/contribute. Your immediate contribution will provide critical assistance, not only in maintaining our website, but in keeping our grassroots activities expanding - for peace, civil liberties, to protect social security, for universal health care, for education, for workers' rights, human rights, voting rights, the environment, fair trade, new energy policies, a new manufacturing policy, a new commitment to America's research and development at NASA and in the private sector... and more.

Please forward this message. Work with us, help us now to continue to serve our nation and the world from the highest octave so that we may bring about the triumph of hope over fear and lift up the human condition. Thanks for everything you have done and will continue to do. You have my ever-present commitment.

Always, Dennis

24.  short, but it was good
both talked about the need to focus on developing non-violent solutions to problems from domestic abuse to war. Both are advocating a Dept. of Peace. Kucinich will present a bill in September.

DK, "war is not inevitable".

27. Interview lasted about 10 minutes
Both Dennis and Marianne Williamson were well-spoken. Talked of the need for another way at looking for conflict resolution, both at home and with other countries. Money required to establish would be but a fraction of what is currently spent on war in Iraq where, had there been a Department of Peace in place before our invasion, it could have been emphasized that evidence of WMD was sorely lacking and UN working...

Not to mention that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.

25. I am not a Marianne Williamson fan-Kucinech needs to ditch her
She's nothing but trouble. Her ethics are questionable and she's mentally unbalanced.

Unbalanced seems plausible as she has always seemed a little off to me, although benignly so, but what are her ethical lapses? I'm not familiar with them.

30. She was pastor at my church for a few years-long post
1. She openly advocated for political candidates from the pulpit. It could have cost us our tax exemption.
2. Whenever she had problems with people within the church, she made a big drama out of it during her sermons.
3. She was completely unapproachable, unless one was in her "inner circle" or she had just published a book and was doing a signing after service.
4. She wanted to change the words to the Lord's prayer to reflect her individual ideas. (Leave us not in temptation, as opposed to Lead us not into temptation) I'm no fundie, but you just don't mess with some things.
5. The money was funny during the last few years of her time there, and she was always begging for more donations/offerings.
6. After she resigned, the church continued her on as a guest speaker once a month or so. The board elected to counter her moves contracted her to do Christmas services a couple of years ago and at the last minute she threatened to pull out if they didn't pay her more (the agreement was for $15,000 for three services-she wanted 20 gs). Additionally, she wanted to change the words to the hymns to better reflect her viewpoints. After that incident, the church cancelled her speaking contract. Her response was to post people in the parking lot the next Sunday to hand out flyers for a meeting with her in a local hotel, so she could explain herself. After that, she started a service of her own in rented spaces on occasional Sundays, in hopes of building her own church. She abandoned the people who left the church for her and moved back to NYC.
7. She constantly misquoted the Bible. One example: She always used the verse "Jesus Wept" when describing his time on the cross, as opposed to where the verse really occurs, when Jesus viewed Lazurus in the grave, prior to raising him up.

There's more, but it's very confidential. The worst thing she did, imo, I can't discuss.

The previous board paid her $120,000 a year in salary, despite her being a multi-millionare from her books. In addition, a nanny was paid for for her teenaged daughter and her personal assistant's salary was also picked up by the church. Her assistant had no duties toward the church whatsoever.

It's taken a couple of years, but the church has finally recovered from her tenure there. There were a lot of hard feelings on both sides-her supporters were angry about the cancellation of her contract, and the more conservative members were sick of her politics. Those of us who were committed to the church, not to whomever was on the pulpit on Sunday, were in a situation where we basically didn't discuss the whole thing because there was no way to reconcile the sides. Some of her supporters had a cult-like adoration of her and it was impossible to reason with them. Some of her hostile detractors were so angry with her that they were impossible to deal with.

I will say this-in all her sermons, there is one teaching of hers that really spoke to me and I took to heart. She said that everyone needs to choose an area of darkness in the world to shine a light on. As I work in children's services, I could really relate to that teaching. When she puts her own issues aside, she is a very good speaker.
