Why would Americans & Brits be held for attacking coalition forces?
Middle East - AP

U.S. Detains Westerners in Iraq

By TAREK AL-ISSAWI, Associated Press Writer

ABU GHRAIB, Iraq - U.S. forces are holding six people who claim to be Americans and two who say they are British for alleged attacks against coalition troops in Iraq (news - web sites), an American general said Tuesday. It was the first time the military reported holding Westerners in the attacks.

The disclosure came a day after troops from the 4th Infantry Division killed two Iraqis and wounded two others in a battle outside an ammunition dump in Tikrit. One man was captured and two others fled in the apparent attempt to loot the depot, spokeswoman Maj. Josslyn Aberle said.

Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski, who is in charge of coalition detention centers in Iraq, said the men claiming to be Americans and British are suspected of involvement in guerrilla attacks. They were not identified.

The eight alleged Westerners are being held 12 miles west of Baghdad at the notorious Abu Ghraib prison, where Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) imprisoned many political opponents.

1. Can you say John Walker Lindh?
Just because they are Americans or Brits doesn't mean they weren't fighting against the U.S.

2. You may be right
And if they were actively fighting against US/UK forces...well they won't get off as "lightly" as Lindh I imagine.

5. Why?
Because Rove needs something to disrupt Wesley Clark's announcement tomorrow, that's why.

6. could be American/British Iraqis
could just be American/British Muslims who feel they have a duty to go help out fellow Muslims (we pay people to do this in Chechnya or did until recently).

9. oh yes..
Shamil Basayev and Al Khattab were armed by the CIA and for all I know still may be. I'm sure part of Putin's quid pro quo for Afghanistan was an agreement to cut that out but the Great Game was moving right along until the WTC fell.

but..

The Kremlin lines up behind Greece and the Greek side of partitioned Cyprus in the Aegean contest and the Kremlin sees Turkey as a troublesome proxy for America following a policy aimed at keeping Russia down.

''The interests of Turkish intelligence are quite clear,'' Vladimir Lutsenko, an ex-KGB officer, told a Moscow newspaper this week. ''They are expanding their influence in the Caucasus and working with the Americans who are extremely keen on weakening Russia. Turkish intelligence is more dependent on the CIA than on its own national leadership.''

Turkey doesn't do anything without US say-so, it never has.

I'm not your fucking google slave, go do it yourself.

oh, to hell with it, if you don't know that the ISI and the CIA work together and you don't know where their "freedom fighters" fight it's a lost cause.

7. Anyone can be imprisoned indefinitely without charges by the US

Nationals of any country are kidnapped at will and imprisoned, US citizens are seized and imprisoned incomunicado.

The Constitution has transitioned to a "symbolic" document.
