1. It is becoming very interesting...
and I've heard of this and other groups who are sick and tired of the political hypocrisy of using their religion for short-term gain. But where were they before the election? Have they only now realized they have been used?

Evangelicals are not a monolithic group. although the gasbags seem united in their nonsense. The end-timers are hopeless cases, since they assume the end of the world is near, so there's no reason to actually do anything worthwhile any more. Just sit back and wait for Jesus.

Many, perhaps most, evangelicals take seriously the stewardship of the planet and the church's responsibility for social justice. They've always been there, but it seems now things have gotten bad enough that they are sorting their priorities out and making their voices heard.

Not that the present criminals in Washington will listen to them any more than anyone else they don't agree with.

These are people we can work with to help throw the worst out of Congress next year, if everyone stops grousing about fundies long enough to get the job done.

2. I won't be watching, but someone might want to ask
Have they built any soup kitchens and rooming houses with all of that government money they were given to care for the poor and indigent? If so, did they build them in the center of the city where the poor usually are or out somewhere in the burbs?

4. I was watching this too, mopaul and was going to post 'til I found this
thread. Thanks.

I read one of his books back in the '80s called Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger. He was a critic of the Reagan Revolution and was often labeled a commie way back then.

5. Evangelicals taking on liberal social issues - "Call to Civic Responsibili
Here are a couple of other posts relating to this tactic of evangelicals "appearing" to move to the left and taking on some liberal social issues

How Much Mixing of Religion and Politics Does the First Amendment Permit?

At a Washington luncheon last week, the National Association of Evangelicals began debating a proposed "call to civic responsibility." If adopted, it would ask the organization's thirty million evangelical Christian members to take a liberal stand on issues such as environmental protection, racial equality, and distributive justice.

For the Health of the Nation: An Evangelical Call to Civic Responsibility

PREAMBLE

Evangelical Christians in America face a historic opportunity. ... Never before has God given American evangelicals such an awesome opportunity to shape public policy in ways that could contribute to the well-being of the entire world. Disengagement is not an option. <snip>
