Bush and GOP using pope’s death for political pandering: why can’t we?
The GOP drones are using his death to spout their "culture of life" message on every news channel, and to connect themselves to the pope's legacy. Why don't we use this oppotunity to stick them for their hypocrisy? John Paul II called the Iraq war a failure for humanity. He was a staunch opponent of the death penalty. Bush and company have no right putting themselves in the same boat as him, and people should be calling them on it every chance they get. No Catholic who believes in the sanctity of life can support a pre-emptive war that has killed atleast 20,000 and maimed over 100,000 civilians to date. Especially when that war was based on a lie. These numbers are far higher even than the number of abortions performed in the States (which BTW has risen during the Bush admin has well. His ignoring of social services for the poor and shipping jobs overseas are mostly responsible for the rise).

Hypocrites and liars, be sure your sins will find you out.

2. They say that everytime we call them on their BS
but in the next breath talk about their culture of life. I agree that it would be distastful to manipulate the public's love of the pope like that. It just makes me sick to see them doing it without anyone calling em on it.

7. i can surely understand how you feel
but also consider w's falling approval ratings. he's so damned desperate he's even attending the funeral. don't most christian wingnuts call the catholic church a cult? and he's dragged his sorry ass to the ceremony. seems like the dominoes are crashing into each other. i do see your point. it gets beyond frustrating with so much at stake. i just hoped to make you feel better and keep the hope alive.

3. agree
It is certainly appropriate for heads of state, and former heads of state, to attend funerals of the heads of state of other countries. It would have been inappropriate for Bush not to have gone. The congressmen, however, are grand-standing trying to suck in the Catholic vote.

4. Even though radical rightwingers
and corporate media pretend Bush and the Pope share the same Golden Aura, rational thinkers disagree. There is nothing Godly about Bush.
He`s arrogant, dangerous, deceptive and shallow.

Any president who holds a Bible in one hand while he`s signing secret torture directives with the other is a war criminal.

5. We don't need to, pandering is from their dishonesty
Culture of life includes war and the death penalty, they have to set those major facets aside to say they agree with it. The Culture of Life is all or nothing, though.

We can just suffice to say that the Pope was a consistant man, and that we aspire to be as consistant as he was. His actions matched his words. The Neocons actions do not.

The Pope wagged his finger at Bush over the war, and was irate at human rights violations in Abu Ghraib, because these actions were against the Culture of Life.
