Photo: Nun waves US flag at pope's funeral
Edited on Fri Apr-08-05 10:20 AM by paineinthearse
I am not an expert in papal protocol, but how is this appropriate behavior for a papal funeral? As he was Polish by birth, I can understand Polish flags, but a US flag???

A nun waves a U.S. flag before the funeral mass for Pope John Paul II in Saint Peter's square at the Vatican, April 8, 2005. Some 200 heads of state, heads of government and royalty joined an ocean of humble pilgrims to say goodbye to the late pontiff on Friday at the biggest funeral in modern times. 3. * can't handle going 5 minutes without seeing "his" flag waved.
I'm sure other countries had their flags there, too. We're just really sensitive to it because the rtethuglians have claimed it as their own and wave it in EVERYONE'S face ALL THE TIME. We, as intelligent, caring people who have respect for others are just so embaressed by the uber-flag waving portion of our sountry that thinks this flag runs the world, we are all quick to think that this nun was trying to be aggressive.

Whenever I see a flag waving, I automatically think, rethug. THen I have to remind myself, it's ours, too. We are just classy enough not to hide behind a false patriotism and are honest about our true place in the world, as a world citizen, not part of the dictating bots.
