Christiane Amanpour in Rome asking tough questions on CNN...
Edited on Fri Apr-08-05 08:43 AM by DeepModem Mom
about the American pedophilia scandal and Cardinal Law, about compassion for AIDS victims in the face of Church policy, etc. She's anchoring with Anderson Cooper. What a great reporter she is! (Someone at my house observed that while Anderson is dressed in mourning, Christiane is dressed as a reporter.)

ON EDIT: Soledad O'Brien now on-screen, asking the usual questions.

1. God I love her!
I hope she stays out of Iraq. We get away with shooting journalists there.

2. She appreciates his strengths, but doesn't whitewash his flaws
That's reporting!

Why can't more people think like this? Pope John Paul was a great man in many respects. He was also deeply flawed, like most of us are. Why the rush to either canonize or demonize?

He was what he was. Those who whish to learn from his example can learn from the good AND the bad.

5. First thing I noticed when I had the TV on this morning--
the ABC and CBS morning show anchors/whores all had black on. They're not in Rome. Probably not even Catholic! I guess it's just like wearing RW&B for Flag Day or Memorial Day, or a costume on Halloween. Just a kicky, fun way they can celebrate the solemnity of the day.

34. I stopped watching them last Nov. after many years, but do miss her and
a few others like her husband, Rubin.
If only the locals were as good as the internationals I might turn them on again one day.

6. She rarely appears on CNN these days.
Edited on Fri Apr-08-05 08:51 AM by CottonBear
God, I miss her and Lynn Russell and Bobby Battista and Bernard Shaw and Peter Arnett. Oh yes, I miss Ted Turner too. When AOL-Time Warner took over, they got rid of the real reporters and "Fauxed" CNN . I remember when CNN changed its format to include the newstickers and excessive graphics.

propaganda coming from Christiane.

11. LOVE CHRISTIANE TOO!
Yes I saw that interview also. The cardinal slithered out of answering the questions directly--as was to be expected.
My mental fantasy was to strangle him with his lacey skirt!

I sent my sons to a secular private school because the neighborhood parish priest had "an affair" with one of the alter boys--which totally ruined that child! Not much was covered in our local press about that-but I was willing to be damned before I put my sons in that kind of environment! :evilfrown:

12. Thomas Cahill was interviewed on AAR Minnesota this morning and said
the Vatican put Bernard Law in a 'parish' in Italy (in Rome?) that he can't be pulled from - as if he has diplomatic immunity.

Cahill had a recent article in the NYT:
The Price of Infallibility

I can't stand that vacuous idiot. She is the worst, and got where she is because of her cutesy-pie little sister act. She's dumber than a box of rocks.

21. CNNServative's Horrid Coverage
This network used to be the "go-to" when a serious event was going on...and judiciously covered events instead of making them into spectacles.

This network's cheap coverage (and that's what it is), relies on using their "personalities" and an arranged crew of paid telepundits, talking heads and "religious experts" along with tons of archived footage that has been piling up for years. This wasn't reporting, this was rolling out sausage...creating a story that they think will draw ratings and revenues and then playing it over and over...news and information takes a back seat when the feeding frenzy begins.

Someone above mentioned the old CNN of Turner's days...when he controlled the network from Atlanta, and the bureaus in Washington, New York, LA and elsewhere were satallite operations that fed the hub. Now there's the New York division (Zahn, Brown), the LA crowd (King) and Washington (Woodruff, Blitzer, Novak) that all are vying for the camera time and who gets the nicer hotel room. It's a shame since this network has become so self-serving and cheapened it's greatest asset information for a few nuggets of gold. From what I've read of the new management, expect more the the same.
