"I start off my show every day by saying that it is the alternative to the daily lies, hate and abomination known as conservative talk radio," Basham explained. "I think conservative talk radio has evolved into an aberration.
"The main purpose of the show has always been to expose conservatism for the inherently dishonest, overtly shallow, greedy and selfish ideology it is. A lot of people say, 'You are nothing but a Bush-basher!' I take pride in that. That is what I have worked hard to develop into.""We looked at Doug's show, and thought it was a great nighttime show because of his background in entertainment," explained Andrew Henderson, founder of the Phoenix-based network. "That translates into the show. You listen to so many shows today -- the Rush Limbaughs on down -- they are kind of just a big sermon. That's not what we're looking for. We wanted something more edgy, more exciting than that. We think that Doug is a great candidate for nighttime talk and fits that bill perfectly."
"The bottom line is the kind of programming I do right now is still -- with a certain contingency in America -- unpopular," Basham continued.
"A lot of people have bought into this blind nationalism disguised as patriotism, have bought into the fear element of terrorism -- even though any credible study I've ever seen shows it's a small movement and doesn't have the support of the majority of the Muslim people. It's really nothing. It's certainly nothing we need to attack a defenseless Third World nation over.Explained Jon Lindquist, KLAV's operations manager, about Basham's situation: "We don't want to lose him. He is a valuable part here, and he's got a terrific show. He's ruffled every feather in town. You know, it's just good radio."
