Wasn't Terri Schiavo supposed to have an autopsy?
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 10:27 PM by DireStrike
Did it happen? What did it show?

Never mind... I broke the cardinal rule, "thou shalt google before thou asketh a question."

TAMPA, Florida (AP) -- The autopsy of Terri Schiavo has been completed, and the body is ready for release to her husband, who plans to cremate her remains and bury the ashes in an unspecified family plot.

Results from the autopsy, which was completed Friday, will not be released for several weeks, according to the medical examiner's office.

Thanks, everybody who answered.

4. She did - results will not be final for "several weeks"
My predictions (and don't even dream of betting against me because I am usually right):

1. The autopsy will show what her earlier brain scans showed, i.e. her cerebral cortex was completely obliterated.

2. The results of the autopsy won't change anyone's opinion about her state of consciousness, prospects for recovery, etc.

5. she did-- no report yet....

Autopsy reports usually take a couple of weeks at least, and since this one was performed under Michael Schiavo's direction, I don't think the report would be a public document in any event unless he chooses to release it.

7. Also it takes at least 2 weeks for the brain to harden enough
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 11:19 PM by RamboLiberal
for them to dissect it. They put it in to something that hardens it. Learned that from watching CSI and listening to Dr. Cyril Wecht one night on Countdown.

OLBERMANN: Firstly, how likely is that autopsy to conclusively tell us just how functional her brain has been these last 15 years?

WECHT: To that extent, I believe the autopsy will go a long way. The autopsy, upon proper fixation of the brain, which in my opinion, should take about two weeks after the autopsy for the brain to harden and to be dissected properly, and to be studied then microscopically. The forensic pathologist, and I would be willing to bet that he‘s going to have a forensic neuropathologist on board, too. They will be able to ascertain by taking representative sections of the brain from those parts which are delineated, the part that takes care of sensory perception, the part that takes care of cognitive function, the part that takes care of intellectual capability, et cetera.

And they will be able to determine in a definitive fashion what exactly was the extent of Mrs. Terri Schiavo‘s problems. They will not be able to determine what the exact cause was. And so you‘re still going to be left with that point of contention, and the people arguing that she was beaten, or that she was strangled and that that was really the cause, that is another issue.

9. Cyril Wecht is a great M.E.
I love Dr. Biden too. I love watching forensic science shows and HBO's Autopsy. I can't remember which one is obsessed with the JFK assassination? I think it was Wecht.

Pretty big into Democratic politics in Allegheny County. An extremely intelligent man, and very cocky as well.

21. It's a love/hate relationship
He is clearly brilliant, has done some magnificent work, and I do think he has the region's best interests at heart.

He is also a bit of an ass-hat.

12. Dr Biden of OJ fame?
The one who said tomato seeds were found in the stomach remains of a mummified Egyptian 30+ centuries old? That Biden?

If so he is lacking something.

Dr Michael Baden is the one on HBO. Isn't he the one who though Terri Schiavo might have been abused?
