Call in today to save the filibuster! IMPORTANT!
C'mon, ya'll, this is IMPORTANT! Keep it kicked!

Oppose the "Nuclear Option"
Protect the Supreme Court

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) has threatened to invoke the "nuclear option,"* a parliamentary power-grab that would break a more than 200-year-old Senate rule allowing senators from the minority party to filibuster out-of-the-mainstream judicial nominees - including those for the Supreme Court!

The truth is, the "nuclear option" is an attempt by the majority party to undermine our democratic traditions in order to push through its own agenda and pack the courts with judges who want to overturn Roe v. Wade. If Frist succeeds, pro-choice senators will have virtually no chance to stop President Bush's far-right nominees - even nominees to the Supreme Court.

By engaging in this reckless power-grab, Senator Frist and his colleagues will do lasting damage to our system of checks and balances, and change the makeup of our courts for generations. The stakes are high -- our democratic system needs your help now!

The Senate is set to consider some of President Bush's most controversial nominees in the coming weeks, and Frist could invoke the "nuclear option" at any time. Your senators need to hear from you!

1. "National Call-In Days to Protect Checks and Balances" - Call your senators toll-free at 1.866.808.0065 on April 6 and 7.

or you can find your senators' direct line at www.congress.org

2. Part of me would love to see the end of the filibuster...
I've been seeing so much small-minded, short-sighted thinking on the Republican side lately that I would love to see a situation where they lose control of the Senate and the White House to Democrats and then find that they are unable to prevent a single judicial nomination.

Then, when they complain, the Dems can read their own words right back to them on why there should be no filibuster.

I would love it.

4. We have to take back the lege branch first
and I really do worry about that electronic voting stuff.

Right now the ONLY thing that's keeping them from tromping all over us is the law. I am really worried about the judiciary!

C'mon, folks, CALL TODAY!!!!!!

Did it already.

This is really, really important!

Especially if you have a repuke Senator but call the Dems too and tell them to stick together on this one.

Get family and friends to call too. Spread the word because people do not know about it.

8. Hillary and Chuck Schumer are my guys....
And I know they're both on board, but I called anyway.

I urged Hillary, if there's ANY collegiality left in the Senate, If Bill EVER did a solid for a Republican Senator, now's the time to call in the chits.

And, I know that Chuck knows some serious money people, and that some of them must be Republicans, and, again, if there's ANY collegiality left in the Senate, this might be a good time to do some back slapping and glad handing..

in defense of those good old checks and balances we've grown to know and love....
