I said "let's be conservative" in a public meeting today (GASP)
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 03:55 PM by elehhhhna
...our county had a vendor fair for Diebold, ES&S, AccuPoll, Hart & Unilect.

When I, an avowed Progressive Democrat, said "In terms of cost, reliablilty and voter-trustworthiness, let's be conservative in our decision-making." there were audible gasps--from BOTH sides of the room (sort of lke a wedding--Dems sat on the left, Reeps on the right). My fellow Dems got it--a few winked, grinned, etc. , while the Cons looked itchy.

Point is: We can and should use the word Conservative in this context whenever/wherever posssible. It helps point out that the OTHER side is radical--not us.

Just a thought...

4. I have this quip saved
If fiscal responsibility, paying down the debt, not mucking with the Constitution for political gain, respecting person privacy, reducing the size of government are "Conservative" ideals, then Clinton/Gore was the most Conservative administration ever!

6. "Conservative" is NOT a dirty word
and should be employed frequently when we're trying to cut pork projects and retain cost effective ones.

That the word has been hijacked by a bunch of radical reactionaries is sad, but they've hijacked a lot of otherwise good words as well, like "patriotism" and "Christian" and we can't be afraid to use those, either.

It's time to call them what they are: CONS.

7. I often tell people that "the conservative in me" doesn't like...
...this current Administration, due to its fiscal irresponsibility.

Dumbshit jokes are popular in my "Reagan Country" part of California, so I then tell one: "Only thing worse than a tax-and-spend Democrat is a don't-tax-and-spend Republican."
