A couple of Adams quotes to ponder.
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 12:42 PM by Bonhomme Richard
John Adams in a letter to Benjamin Rush regarding war.:
"War necessarily brings with it some virtues, and great and heroic virtues too. What horrid creatures we men are, that we cannot be virtuous without murdering one another?"

Abigail Adams in a letter to Cotton Tufts regarding slavery:
"But it is true Republicanism that drive the slaves half fed, and destitute of clothing...whilst an owner walks about idle, though one slave is all the property he can boast."

Not much really changes does it?

3. Yes, there was a lot of controversy even then...............
about the act. Even at that, when Jefferson became President he did not repeal the act though he could have.
I have to say I have very mixed feelings about Adams but there were three things he was steadfast about.
He was passionate about doing everything he could to avoid war.
He hated the two party system and,
He was anti slavery.
