Wouldn't it be funny...
if Martinez handing Harkin that memo was not an accident?

I just found this to be a funny, idle thought. Thought it's probably not the case, it sure would make me laugh if it was.

3. I really don't doubt it was a mistake
From a historical standpoint, mistakes are a common source point of failure. And, in the absence of evidence to the contrary, it only makes sense to go with the best explanation available.

his coat at all... Do Aides generally give their Senators papers directly into their pockets?

Oh, I know someone could have given it to him, he folded it, and placed it into his pocket without reading it -- but generally isn't there something said when a document is handed to you? And if he just picked it up off a desk in curiosity to read later, I'm sure he glanced at it before deciding whether to keep it or not.

(If a statement has been made in the media that clears this up, I apologize. The account I read merely said that he didn't know about it at the beginning of the article, and then later stated that he mistakenly handed it to Harkin).

5. Actually...
I'm sure what really happened is, see, the Aide and the Senator are pretty much the same size...yeah, see, and they both hung their coats up next to the front door, that's it, and the Senator just grabbed the wrong coat on the way out to the floor, that's the ticket!

Now excuse me, I hear my girlfriend coming in the front door...Morgan Fairchild!

8. If we had a REAL media
someone would have the balls to go on air and call Bullshit on that ridiculous fabrication. Jesus Christ on a trailer hitch!!! Even when the bastard gets caught redhanded with the memo IN HIS FUCKING POCKET, he gets off without any real press scrutiny. Apparently the term "smoking gun" has been redefined since I last saw it used, because the guys who are paid to find it can't even see it when it's right under their nose. Color me disgusted.
