I don't think I will ever vote Republican again...

I live in Austin, Texas and being as you lived here, you should know how expensive it can be. Not only that, but our wonderful State government has decided to give us the highest sales tax in the nation!! I am truely beginning to wonder if I will ever vote republican again. If Jeb runs for president, I highly doubt I will vote for him. Some people are saying that the reason gas is so high, is because you struck a deal with oil producing countries so you could conduct your war in Iraq. Could this be true?...

When will they ever learn?

1. Maybe someone posing as a Repub?
Just to get the point out? That was my first thought. Or, maybe somebody finally waking up, either way....

4. Why?
Why is that an immediate possibility? You know, even in my reddest county in the bluest of states, there is a lot of buyer's remorse being expressed by life-long repugs.

They are going too far. People understand that. Now, they have to be educated on just how far and what their intentions are, if it all comes to pass. They are closer to listening.

11. I guess because the line
"Some people are saying that" seems to me a little contrived. Could also be totally honest, I don't know. Sad that that's my first thought, though. I really do hope that people are starting to wake up and put the pieces together. I really hope the day is coming where people start voting for those who will truly represent their best interests, both economic and environmental...

13. There is a long way to go.
Very long. Immediate gratification is not an option. Period. But things are changing in the general mood and the receptability is growing.

For all the rhetoric about how "polls are bullshit", there is still tactical information contained in them. Add to that the fact that The Travails of Tom DeLay are becoming the public face of the repukes and there are some interesting ingredients in the soup.

The question is: how do we capitalize on these opportunities?

14. Quite a few of these letters (if they are legit)
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 11:50 AM by XanaDUer
on that site state things like,'All my friends say you are a liar and I am getting tired of defending you...'

That's a paraphrase. Could be a contrived fake, or could be that paying over two bucks/gallon for gas makes the Bush economy hit home. Screw with Americans and their cars, I guess that gets their attention faster than things like unjust preemptive wars, etc.

15. I wonder too
And if this really is a republican will they stay true to their word or will the flipflop in the future? They are known for that.

5. Compared to the rest of Texas it is.
My little house is easily $25,000 more expensive because it's in Austin.

6. The neocons in charge have abandoned core Republican values.
These days, if you want fiscal responsibility (balanced budgets), respect for states' rights, fair taxation, and a non-interventionist foreign policy, you should be voting Democratic, as the parties have changed places on these important issues.

Democrats are also the only ones looking out for the middle class and working families. Republicans tax cuts only benefit the wealthy and the corporations; realy it's the corporations running everything nowadays, from our media to the federal government.

If you're looking for a "way station" while sorting out how to vote in the future, I'd recommend joining a Democracy for America chapter in your area. These are usually nonpartisan (though a few have opted to become Democratic Clubs). Here in San Diego, our DFA chapter has a lot of reformed Republicans as well as Independents and Green Party members, as well as Democrats. DFA is dedicated to preserving rights and interests of the people over the corporations and protecting our democratic form of government against increasingly totalitarian tendencies -- ie opposing government propaganda, protecting Social Security, opposing the destruction of civil liberties under the Patriot Act, and promoting fiscally responsible government.

17. No, not reformed.
If they were going to name it, it would be a name that reflected that they are returning to the original Republican party ideals. I can't, off the top of my head, think of a good name. I don't think "Old School Republican Party" would be a name they would go for, although I think it describes what they were going for.

12. Why? It's not an exact quote.
I cannot fit the whole thing. Once they open it, they will get the point.
