I know what is missing in our Mainstream Media's coverage of news.
For lack of a better term, I will call it Informed and Intelligent Speculation.Let me give some examples:

1. When Bush or Cheney, refuse to appear in front of the handpicked 9/11 Commission individually under oath and testify, it might be reasobnable to speculate as to why they are doing that.It may be even proper to speculate on their dereliction of duty.

2. When the only people in our Congress who received the Anthrax laced letters were people like Tom Daschle, Patrick Leahy or Mark dayton, all Liberal Democrats who have raised uncofortable questions about 9/11, we can be forgiven some speculation as to who may have a motive for doing so.

3. When the same Commission I referred to does not bother to ask the questions submitted by the Widows of 9/11 it would be reasonable to ask why not and speculate why they did so.

I can add many more but the overall impression it conveys is that there is even a limit as to the topics that can be discussed, sort of a self censorship process. That makes our Press the most insipid institution around.

2. What is missing is reporting
The news stars don't report news they sensationalize and editorialize the reports and spin it to fit their or their regimes agenda.

3. Established Networks
Established networks are living off the fact that they 'own' the broadcast rights on their given channels across the country.

P2P may be the end of this, but, for the majority of the US population, broadcast TV is their source.

We need to establish regular and periodic auctions of FCC licenses, and we need to structure them such that micro tv and micro radio can exist: we need to auction the frequencies and coverage areas in small quantities.

Not only would this raise revenue for the country (and hopefully reduce payroll taxes) it would break the back of the broadcast oligopoly.

4. Our News Media has become
nothing short of televised tabloid journalism. They are TV versions of The Enquirer, World News and other rag publications. Anything of real substance, news wise, gets little to no air play.

That's it in a nutshell. It started with the OJ trial and just continued it's downward slide ever since.

5. Very true.
Most people in this country have no clue to anything. They think currently, we just have some conservatives in office and haven't noticed all the radical changes being undertaken nor given any clues there has been any controversies concerning this government. They also have ZERO instincts things are really different. A press missing in action along with the DLC helps the cause of the ignorant citizen.
