"Hold the quiche: Manly men are back" *Or: How to mis-read a poll
from the knicker-twisting WaTimes...

Women want the "man" back in "manly," a Harris Interactive survey shows. The rough-and-ready attitude is in, women say, while the manicured "metrosexual" look is on the way out.
.....
Ninety-two percent of women said dependability is a desirable characteristic in an ideal mate. Only 16 percent chose "fashionable," and 62 percent chose "strong" as a desirable characteristic.
.....
"It just shows that there are some things that you can't change and that, while feminism for a long time has been pushing us towards androgyny with little girls with trucks and guys with dolls, women tend to have feministic traits and guys the opposite," says Carrie Lukas, director of policy with the Independent Women's Forum. "If anything, it shows what feminism hasn't been able to accomplish."
.....
•41 percent of women said their ideal man spends his time watching sports.
.....
If American women are interested in manly men, then why does Hollywood celebrate men who are in touch with their feelings and fashion?

I cherry-picked; the article sites some other poll details. -A majority prefer rough hands, grocery store-bought grooming products, easy-going-ness, and home improvers.

Now, TELL me which of those tests someone like ALAN ALDA would fail???? (if you're youngish, Alda was kind of an icon for a cultural change that accepted/encouraged men to have feelings)

The manipulation is SO blatant it's funny! What isn't funny is that I see here a backlash against a stereotype.

3. Of course, the poll doesn't say that at all
How can the Moonie Times read those stats and come to that conclusion? It's the selling of homophobia.

4. Yeah, because men who buy store bought grooming products are wife beaters.
:sarcasm:

5. OK. That fails the scratch and sniff test
aside from it being the Moonie Times...

it's an attack on both the women's movement and men who don't meet someone elses idea of "manly" (there's an agenda under the surface)

It's an insult to people in general....how stupid do ya gotta be to think this poll should determine how you view people? Though, there will be a gaggle of splatter matters who will smirk and gloat when they read this...as if it reflects well on them and their thinking.

6. REALLY!!!
As a middle-aged single woman, I survey the scene and there are way too many macho jerks around. That doesn't necessarily mean that they're abusive, but it does mean that there isn't an idea in their heads that the MSM didn't put there, that they're afraid to do anything "the other guys" wouldn't approve of, that all they can talk about is work, mechanical objects, and sports; and that they don't try to broaden their cultural or intellectual horizons unless some woman is dragging them by the ear--and even then, it's a struggle.

Too many American men have lost the ability to distinguish masculinity from mindless macho.

7. Gotta love the moonie times.
Women love manly men? Uh... yeah. At least until the baby boomers die off... then do your little survey again. Idjits.
