Why do they always say "trying to shove it down our throats"
when it comes to "decency" on the airwaves, the "homosexual agenda" or musical lyrics?

Is there somnething Freudian about this or am I seeing something that is not there at all? Regardless, it always tickles me when I hear this.

1. It's just meant to suggest something...
... not accepted voluntarily. M'self, I think it probably originates in the practice of force-feeding geese so their livers will get fatty for the sake of more pate'.

As a metaphor, it's pretty effective because one can sense, viscerally, the intrusive nature of the action.

3. I have heard the term for most of my life, generally used when you are
being forced to accept something against your will.
It has the connotation that you are being force fed.

7. I don't know how you do it
but I tie my neighbors up and force them to listen to non christian music lyrics and force them to watch homoerotic movies and indecent scenes on TV and make them read Hustler from cover to cover. I'm just your typical liberal on the block.
