Skirmish over military recruiting
Skirmish over military recruiting

(April 7, 2005) — On the first Tuesday of each month, U.S. Army recruiters set up a table at Fairport High School to give students a chance to explore the Army as a career option.

Fairport officials also think that recruiters are going too far when it comes to getting the names, phone numbers and addresses of potential recruits.

In February, Paddock said he had to ask military recruiters to leave the school because of complaints that they were harassing the students. That's when the recruiters were asked to set up their tables in the Guidance Library.

Fairport officials also think that recruiters are going too far when it comes to getting the names, phone numbers and addresses of potential recruits.

But military recruiters think Fairport isn't doing what is required by federal law.

2. This is comforting:
>Douglas added that many are misinformed about the Army in general. For example, most people don't know that only 13 of the 212 jobs in the Army are combat-related.<

and I'm sure that only those in one of those 13 positions have been deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq.

:eyes: ---

Personally, I like the opt-in idea, rather than placing the burden on parents to opt-out. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.
