Nashua Advocate: Conservative Blogger Gets Gored for Bogus Memogate Story
Edited on Wed Apr-06-05 11:29 PM by nashuaadvocate
Victory is sweet, and so is this public mortification of X-con internet imp, John Hindraker (Powerline Blog).

An excerpt:

Amateur Conservative Blogger John "The Hindrocket" Hindraker, of "Powerline" Infamy, Forced to Eat Enormous, Gorge-Inducing Three-Course Crow Dinner

An ADVOCATE EDITORIAL

Remember that annoying little internet gremlin who "exposed" the so-called "Memogate" scandal prior to last year's presidential election, just in time to rally the conservative shock-troops for a narrow Republican victory in November?

The one who had curiously well-prepared, outrageously esoteric talking points ready-at-hand on a "scandal" no one had ever heard of, just hours after said "scandal" broke, leading some to believe Team Bush had actually fed him the story (and perhaps even "leaked" the disputed memo itself, in classic Rovian fashion)?

You recall, the "scandal" in which CBS News--which remained silent about George W. Bush's DWI conviction in the run-up to the 2000 election, only to carry the story too late to hurt the then-Governor--accidentally used fake documents to prove true a story the nation already knew to be true, to wit, that the President was Absent Without Leave (AWOL) from his low-impact, nepotism-begotten spot in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War, while poorer and less-connected American sons were dying by the tens of thousands in Southeast Asia?

Well, said gremlin--we mean John Hindraker of Powerline now, not the President, a different sort of creature altogether--has tried to again capture lightning in a bottle.

And it is a testament to the man's ingenuity, savvy, and heaven-sent creative genius that he's again claiming memos currently being touted by the Democratic Party are, in fact, fakes.

That's right, the same accusation, the same implication, the same indictment, and the same purpose, too: to make John Hindraker famous in X-con political circles--a darling of the Heritage Foundation lecture circuit--instead of an irrelevent also-ran in a pantheon of radical conservative bloggers which includes Hal Turner, Michelle Malkin, and the marginally-functional Ann Coulter.

The only problem is, this time he's gone and laid a giant goose egg.

2. Great article - you should change your subject to reference
"GOP alleged memogate buster" or something like that.
Folks may not recognize the man's name. Well, the evening crowd might miss and the late night crew might get it!

Great job! thanks :hi:

4. Great piece, but don't hold your breath waiting for an admission of wrong
The only question I have is why did Martinez fess up? Harkin wasn't telling. Mass corporate media had hyped the idea the talking points were a fake, and that is where the matter was settled in the masses little brains.

So why fess up?

9. Why?
That thread didn't answer my question the first time I read it. And still doesn't. Unless I missed it.

Why fess up now? They didn't have to.

11. It wasn't a bother
sorry if I made it seem that way. I was really hoping the thread would say why Martinez's staff fessed up and I just missed it. Were they pushed into doing fessing up now because someone is investigating or was it a part of a new political ploy, or what?

12. I think staffers and insiders have begun to realize that the
winds are shifting.

Something tells me that things are about to get very interesting!
