Anyone watching Charles Barkley on The Big Idea?
I thought someone said he was a Republican. He sure isn't talking like a Republican. Said he is disgusted by how religion has been used by politicians the last 3 years.

Also said that Bill Clinton did more for blacks than any other president.

4. He once told his mom as a joke that he's a republican
She said that Republicans only care about the rich and he said that makes him a republican now because he was rich. In realiy he's a liberal leaning independent.

8. That makes sense.
He just ripped on the Bush administration, saying they are making it more difficult for the poor to pull themselves out of poverty. Said the right wing should be called the "wrong wing".

No way he could be defined as a Republican after hearing him tonight.

5. It really pisses me off with the disinformation around here
Barkley was never a republican.

Quizzed by Robert Novak on CNN's Crossfire as to whether he was a Republican or a Democrat, Barkley said, "I'm not either, to be honest with you. I made a joke with my grandmother one time. I was asking her, 'Why are we Democrats?' She said, 'Republicans are only for rich people.' And I said, 'I'm rich.' And she hasn't given me a viable answer." The person he'd most like to meet is Colin Powell. After spending four hours with Clarence Thomas, he said, "I think I'm smart, but I was learning on the go talking with him. He's achieved true greatness." Many years ago he said, "I look at all my old friends in the 'hood, and they're in the same place they've always been. On welfare, mostly. All the liberals have done is give the black man an inferiority complex. They gave us a little fish, instead of teaching us how to fish."

11. Someone posted just last night I think that he was Republican
in response to the story that he may run for governor. I really didn't know anything about his politics until I heard him tonight.

BTW, it didn't sound as though he really wants to be governor. He said he was more interested in having a national platform to raise issues he feels are important.

6. I think the only reason
people thought he was republican was because of a conversation he tells people he had with his grandma.

He asked his grandma why she was a Democrat and she answered, "because republcans are for the rich" and then Barkely replied, "well we're rich".

He seems pretty liberal and I think he supported Edwards in the primaries.

10. He and Limbaugh are friends, I think
I'm pretty sure they have golfed together.

To be quite honset, I don't think Charles has thought out his positions enough to know what he is. I think he is bright. I think he is quick-witted. But I don't think he is the type of guy to really sit down and ponder tax policy. So, he probably doesn't know what he is yet.
